Arrival Story: I was born on Superbowl Sunday!!! My mommy came and got me from a work friend when I was just barely 5 weeks old 'cause I got weaned early. She brought me home in a nice warm, fluffy blanket and loved me and snuggled me and played with me. She told me how much she loves me and I get to stay with her for always. So here I am......and she adores me because I am such a silly l'il pup....and I adore her too.
Bio: Mommy likes Dachshunds so much. She had one growing up, and her daddy had several growing up. But she can't keep every one she meets, so she is a foster mom for Dachshund Rescue. This way she gets to love lots of Doxies and then she gets to love lots more. So far I have had 5 foster brothers and 1 foster sister. The first (RINGO) got adopted and we were both so, so sad. Then we got a second one (CHARLIE) and he is adopted now too. Next came a foster sister (TIKI). She was a puppy and stayed for 2 years. She could be a little annoying, but fun to play with...when she wasn't trying to take my place in Mommy's lap. She has her own family now too and I miss her! Next came ATTICUS, SAM, and ROCKET. Atti went to live at the beach. Rocket found a home but sadly went to Rainbow Bridge after a few months. And Sam...well Sam decided to stay and be my forever brother...YEA.... and I am so happy he did. After that CHLOE came (our matronly lady). HOLLYBERRY came for Christmas and got adopted at Easter, and now itty-bitty BONNIE is here. I just love all my foster siblings and I hope I get more and more and more and more...because more feet means more games of CHASE!!!

Places I've Traveled: Mommy takes me places all the time. I've been all around Texas (Buda, College Station, San Antonio, Corpus Christi), Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky and all kinds of places around Houston!!! I like to climb up behind her neck and ride like a neck pillow! It's warm & comfy and I can see out the window!
Bailey cannot type right now so she has asked me, MOM, to do it for her. Last week Bailey was not feeling too well and went to the vet for some X-Rays. During her exam a disc in her neck ruptured resulting in complete paralysis from the neck back....all 4 legs included. The always dreaded Doxie IDD issue. After rushing to the Bay Area Veterinary Surgical Specialists in Houston, she had emergency surgery to clean out the rupture and fenestrate 4 other discs in her neck that were abnormal also. (Thank you Dr. Dailey for your wonderful care and expertise.)
It has been a week now and she is able to move all 4 of her legs...some better than others. Her left front leg continues to be a challenge but she is trying hard. She still cannot stand very well or support her weight so we use a sling to help her potty. She misses all her friends at her therapy group, Caring Critters, and wishes she could be spreading cheer at the hospital and nursing home. But that will have to wait until she is recovered which could be several months. When she goes back, she says wants to visit the VA Hospital and tell all the soldiers about her experience and encourage them to work hard on their therapy too.
Thanks to everyone who is passing on healing prayers and thoughts her way. She is trying very hard to rest and heal.
NO, not MY therapy!!! I don't need therapy…..I am very well adjusted thank you very much. I have to be with all the comings and goings around HERE! It is my 1 Year of being a Therapy dog! I still go to the Nursing Home and Mommy's Hospital. I have gotten very good at the hospital. It does not scare me at all now and everyone loves me so much. I have made good friends with all the other dogs. There is even a big bird that goes.....he does monkey noises....I like monkeys. Maybe I will get to go more places. I told mom I can go more but she hasn’t let me yet. We'll see.
We had our first Rescue booth for 2008 yesterday. It was a Pet Festival. We had LOTS of doxies come stay in our booth. That made lots of people want to come over and pet us! Mom said we were good doggies and helped raise money for rescue. Good. It is very important to rescue Doxies. IN a few weeks we get to go to another one....the WEINER RACES ARE BACK!!!! Back to Buda, Texas for the Weiner Festival!!!! Whoo Hoo!!! If you've never been, you should. Come see us at our booth for www.atdr.org
Holly's blanket is still warm and in comes a NEW sister. Bonnie Belle is what Grandmama has named her and I am NOT really sure she is a Doxie. I have never SEEN on this small. She only is 7 1/2 pounds Mom says and is full grown. She was lost and taken to the pound...the same one Chloe came from so I sure am glad we got her out of there. She is very small but very bossy. I don't really mind...everyone knows I am the Queen. But I guess when you are that small you have to make sure nobody steps on you. We are showing her the ropes though. Sam taught her how to use the dog door and I explained that if she doesn't eat all her supper we will finish it when she walks away. That took her a little while to understand...hehehe. But she has it figured out now....too bad. We are having fun of course as we always do. Mommy says she is very cute and pretty...a true Mini....and someone will adopt her very soon.
