Arrival Story: I had gone back to school to be a veterinary tech, my friend was doing her internship at Lied Animal Shelter in Las Vegas. She knew that my husband and I were looking for a canine companion for our other Shepherd Sherlock and told me that someone had surrendered a beautiful older German Shepherd. She was a puppy mill dog and I guess couldn't produce any more litters because of her age (she was nine years old at the time we adopted her). I took Sherlock down to the shelter to see how they would get along, she had just been spayed that day and was still a little groogy. But Sherlock seemed to be fine with her and so she became a part of our family.
Bio: When we orginally brought Bonnie home, unbeknownst to us she had contacted Bordetella (kennel cough) at the shelter. She was extremely sick, and we had to buy a vaporizer, feed her cooked chicken breasts, rice, hamburger, anything to make her eat and feed her by hand. At one point she was hospitalized and given fluids intravenously because she was so dehayrated. Our vet gave her a fifty fifty chance. But it's amazing what love can do. When he called us back in a week to see how she was doing, he couldn't believe she was still alive. I told him it's amazing what love can do for an animal. It was probably the first time in her life she felt total love from a human being. Today she is a beautiful addition to our family. She'll be celebrating her thirteenth birthday in October. She's losing the use of her back legs (hip dysplasia) but is still very alert. She has one of the sweetest personalities and just about loves everyone. With two cat brothers and a sister she is very tolerant of other animals and misses her brother Sherlock very much.We cherish anytime that we have left with her. SAVE A LIFE ADOPT OLDER ANIMALS!!******Update - On Saturday March 21, 2009 our beautiful little angel went to the Rainbow Bridge. Her back legs could no longer support her and she let us know it was her time to go. She was one of the sweetest dogs I have ever had in my life and touched my heart in so many ways. She had one of the sweetest smiles that lit up a room and my heart. There are no words to express my sorrow on losing my precious girl and we were so lucky to have her in our lives. Rest now Sweet Angel till we meet again.

My sweet precious girl a month has passed since you have passed away. I have no poem that I have written, but only words to express my sorrow. Time has not healed only numbed the pain. It has taken away the smell of you where you laid, the dish where you ate, but not the ache in my heart. I wish I could have been more selfess and kept you alive, but I loved you too much to do that. You could no longer lift yourself up to drink water, walk, and it was too painful to watch. Bonnie, I still remember the first time you looked me in the eye, the trust had finally been built between us, you didn't shake when I went to pet you, you loved for the first time in your life. We worked together to build that friendship and my heart is forever yours. There is such an emptyness in my home, how sad it makes me feel. I can only smile now picturing you running with Sherlock and all of your angel friends through meadows and chasing butterflies knowing that one day we will be together again. Rest now my sweet angel for one day we will be together. Forever in my heart dear Bonnie.
