Arrival Story:
I was on the way to pick up beer for a painting party at my house, as I had new roomies moving in, with my friend Breanna, she suggested we go into the Toronto Humane Society to check out the dogs. I had a funny feeling I may be walking out with one that day. Well that wasn't exactly the case - We looked around, and Breanna found him, he was the saddest dog in there, with adorbale "broken" ears that gave him SO much character. I wanted him right away, but I had my roommate Erin to consider. She and I had talked about getting a dog before she moved in, but I didn't think it would happen so soon. We waited until the next day - and I took Erin back to the humane society - Funny thing- the humane society tried soo hard to talk us out of this dog. He had been abandonned, and brought to them 3 weeks or so prior, and adopted out right away. The folks who adopted him brought him back because they couldn't handle him. Ranger suffered from TERRIBLE separation anxiety, and destroyed their apartment on several occasions, ripping down curtains and paintings on the walls, scratching the heck out of their apt walls etc.. They wrote a letter explaining that they tried everything in the book, and could not get him to chill. The humane society told me I would HAVE to crate train him, and be patient. The previous people said that they thought he was going to kill himself trying to excape from the crate, or hurt himself badly at the very least. I knew this dog would be cool for me - don't know how I knew, I just did - I went along with the Humane Society, and promised to do what they asked, but I had no intention of freaking this dog out anymore than he already was. When he first arrived he would not eat for 2 weeks, and I didn't see him wag his tail for at least 5 weeks - not once! NOW he's unstopable! I took him to the cottage - that cured that - he LOVED running around up there, it helped him become a real dog again now he gets soooo excited whenever any of us come through the door, his tail needs a brace!Ranger has been a perfect fit in our home, we have 2 other people who live here with us and we are frequently around in the daytime - he gets SOOOO much love and attention that now we think he's a bit of a spoiled princess - but that's cool - we love him, and we know he loves us.
