Arrival Story:
Last fall we were traveling through Nashville on I24. From the side of the road a little black head popped up out of a ditch. At first I told myself "that could not be a puppy, it had to be rubber from a tire because NO ONE would just toss a puppy out along the expressway." I told my husband we have to turn around and about 14 miles later we made our way back to the spot were I hoped to find a torn up tire. We pulled over and sure enough there he was, but he was not alone. Two other squirming little hungry and dehydrated bodies started wiggling around in the ashes and soot. Apparently there had been some sort of fire in the area where they were left. We scooped up the two girls first and put them in the brand new jeep commander my husband had just purchased. Ash looked at me and started making his way up the hillside as if to say “take care of them first.” We got the girls settled and in the meantime Ash had perched himself up on the very steep hillside about 15 yards up. No way could I leave him there. I made my way up the hillside and when I reached him he took a deep breath and let me pick him up. He was covered in mange and in bad shape. I started crying and he gentle licked my face as if to say thank you for saving us. A fabulous rescue group Mostly Mutts helped me find homes for the girls, but Ash was not going to leave my side. He is now working on his canine good citizenship and hopes to soon join Happy Tails as a therapy dog in the near future. He is a happy boy : )
