Arrival Story: Well, to make a long story that has been told over many beers at the dog park, many times, short....I had been looking for a dog for a while...my whole life really, but nothing ever seemed to work out. Then one day, fate had it that I met a dog named Fischer when he jumped in my car. He had escaped from the local pound and I returned him, then two days later I decided to go back and get him. However, on the day I went to go get him, he ran away and was never seen again. (It must have been a sign.) I kept returning to the pound to see if another dog seemed right, but none really spoke to me.
So, about a month later, I went to Beaufort SC for a friend's birthday. Later that afternoon, I went for a walk on a local beach and saw people playing with their dogs. Depressed at not having found "the right dog" yet, I decided to check out the local animal shelter. Amazed at the sparking clean Beaufort County Shelter, I walked back to see the dogs. There was a big basset hound barking his head off, and a few tiny puppies and older dogs who were either sleeping, peeing, or barking...but there was one dog....a small black lab puppy who just sat there and stared at me. I took that small pup outside and walked around with her, sat down with her and stared into her eyes. Would she be the dog I had always hoped for, my friend, my walking buddy, and my protector? Could I trust her to be the best dog she could be if I could try to be the best dog owner I could be? (tissues please?) The look in her eye told me she would hold up her end of the deal, so I then sealed the deal with the state of South Carolina and took the little pup home. (oh yeah...did I say this was going to be short?)

Bio: Anna was four months old and had been in two shelters before I rescued her. Even though she is registered in South Carolina, she was born in Savannah. Someone got her at the Savannah Shelter and then dropped her off at the Shelter in Beaufort.
Anna got her name on the day I got her. I took her to Petsmart to get the required puppy goods, and of course because she is so cute, people were making a fuss over her. I was talking to one little girl and her mother and her mother about how I had just gotten the dog that day. The little girl felt inclined to tell me she had just gotten a doll that day too. I asked the little girl what the doll's name was, to which she replied Annabelle. I liked the sound of that, so I asked the little girl and her mother if it was alright if I named my puppy that too? The girl happily shook her head yes. Henceforth: Anna be her name.

Whilst you or your dog make it out to the strip malls, be sure to stop by your favorite magazine stand or Barnes and Noble, sip a latte, and flip through the winter 2004 copy of "moderndog". Turn to page 12 for a photo of me.
Even though I am camera shy, I can tell my dog modeling days are just around the corner. Mircobitotic diets and movie star boyfriends here I come.
While we don't subscribe to the magazine, it's an interesting read for all people and pets who strive or pretend to be more urban and trendy than they really are (this does not include my family though...we come from a long line of hobos). Anyway, it's worth a flip through, I esp. dig the fashion photos in the back. Sure, that $300 cashmere sweater looks nice, but it'll look even better dog hair on it, right?
