My human mommy took me to my favorite vet on Tuesday June 1,2010 for a quick weigh-in so we could make sure I am getting the proper dose of heartworm preventative for my size. The last time I was here about 7-8 months ago I weighed 135 lbs so imagine the surprise of everyone when I stepped on the scale and weighed in at 173 nonfat pounds! My vet made me get on the scale 3 times just to be sure! Woof! Woof! So I guess life is great and my excellent health proofs it!

Hello Big beautiful world! My name is LEXI and I am what is considered to be a "rare" breed called Fila Brasileiro or Brazilian Mastiff. I am now 2 years old and living the "good life" compared to where I started out at. I was purchased from a breeder in California by a couple who wanted me to be a breeder for a fighting group. I was kept outside in a 4 x 4 pen on a concrete slab with no shade or trees with another male Fila who was to be my mate. The couple who bought me were arrested and placed in jail for manufacturing and selling drugs and we were basically left to fend for ourselves!! No one came to care for us and the only water we got was a small bucket and when that was gone the rain and the food was the scraps people passing by threw to us. A lady tried to rescue us but no one not even the police would help us-they said they would call animal control but we would be put down due to our breed supposedly being aggressive and non adoptable. After 3 weeks the lady finally said Heck with it and came rescued us herself! By then the home was emptied and abandoned and we were left out literally with the trash! The trash, furniture and leftovers were all piled out along side our pen to be picked up by the city trash! We were getting soo thirsy and hungry we were eating our feces and rocks and then FINALLY Our angel came and we were sooooo scared and she came in a drug us outside onto that scary green stuff that we had never been on before. We fought her and tried to scratch her and bite her to get away but she calmed us down and gave us water and a small bit of food. She then loaded us up into her car and took us home which was 2 hours away. My mate was adopted by a family in Chicago and my angel adopted me! I now live at the dog rescue my mom has with her and alot of brothers and sisters. We have 2 acres fenced to run and wading pools to swim and play in. My breed is not recommended to be with numerous dogs but they say I AM OUTSIDE the norm and I play well with others. I love sleeping on the couch with my pals and hogging all of moms bed.
