Arrival Story: I have always adored the basset hound since I seen one as a child. I owned two basset mixed and finally was able to obtain a purebred. Obtained from Tait's basset farm in State College PA and was the Great Uncle to our second basset, Jacob.

Bio: Sadly, with all of his family and his vet, Sebastian was helped to the Rainbow Bridge on Feb 20, 2004.
For 11 1/2yrs he brought us much laughter and joy, and it was with heavy hearts we had to make the decision to help him leave us.
He developed a seizure disorder by age 5 yrs. Around 8 yrs he started to be plaque with arthritic joints. Our neighbors still tease us about the ramp/subdeck we had built to make it easier for Sebastian to go outside. By age 9 his hearing was gone, by age 10 he was blind in one eye and near blind in the other. We all managed to adapt to his needs. At the end of Nov 2003 he developed Diabetes and was started on insulin shots. Even with all involved, we were willing to try to help him, just to hold on a little longer. Prayers to God for the gift of time, which he granted. A small reprieve where we were able to see some signs of the old Sebastian. Sadly at the beginning of Feb 2004, his Diabetes when out of control again. Our vet said it would be our decision if we wanted to have him put to sleep - the question we were to ask was "are you happy with your life now" if our hearts said "no" it was time. Such a tough decision, which took us better than two weeks to make. On his final morning, there was no shots, no diet, surrounded with all the family and as many treats as he asked for and he seemed the happiest he had been in months.

Reflecting back on time and fondly remembering my first basset son. Although it has been 4 plus years now, not a day goes by that a fond memory isn't recalled with laughter. It just shows how special your were. Your pictures are amongst the many featured on our fridge, which we often find ourselves stopping and saying "I remember when this was taken - do your remember the time he....."

It has been a little over two years since your journey to the bridge. As time passes the pain of losing you has been replaced with so many wonderful memories of you. Your pictures still grace our home as you live on within our hearts. As we watch Jacob and Coal each day, we fondly reflect with laughter, on memories that made you so special.

It is the eve before the one year anniversary of your walk to the bridge and I am thinking of you, picturing you in a pile of treats, waiting until the time we walk together again.
This year has seemed to pass quickly, but not a day goes by that a memory or two, or three - well maybe a few more than that, passes through my mind. Memories that brings a smile and laughter, memories that warms our hearts. You may physically be out of our sight, but we see you each day in our memories. Memories that we share with your grand-nephew, Jacob. LOL- in some ways he is like you, in many ways, so different. Dad, the girls and I,always picture you sitting here shaking your head and saying "son, you are ruining the reputations of all good bassets, make them give you all the treats you want, make them share their food, etc"
As I watch Jacob strolling down and visiting with your old pal, Hobo, I picture you and your many strolls down to visit with himand like to think you would be happy that Jacob picked up where you left off. There is a warm feeling when I spot Jacob sitting and staring at your resting place. We keep wondering if you are whispering advise to him :) If you are whispering to him, don't you corrupt him:) he is already every bit as spoiled as you were, if not more. Nah - we think you are equally spoiled, just in different ways.
At quiet times, I look through your pictures, watch the video clips and visit with you in my heart and memories. We cherish those pictures, as well as the memories, until the time we are all together again.
All my love
