Arrival Story: I had wanted a Bloodhound for over 2 yrs but they are hard to find in PA for some reason, most breeders I could find are in the South or Midwest, well almost anywhere but driving distance to PA. Just before Christmas '07 I heard of a breeder on the other side of Harrisburg, PA, that had three male bloods for sale. Need I say I made a fast call and my husband and I were on our way! What a Christmas present! Of the three pups, one, the biggest kept coming to me for kisses and hugs. Need I say more--Charlie came home with us. I always had big dogs, actually the Bassets are the shortest I've ever had although they are still quite large except for Bessie my petite girl.
Charlie is still a story in the making, he's 10 mos., weighs over 100 lbs, is the most gentle, laid back dog I've ever had. I love him to death and he will always be my boy but, oh, what he can get accomplished when you're not paying attention! Thank goodness I held off on getting new furniture when I decided I wanted another huge one because a short list is, so far, the couch or at least one cushion of it, numerous throws that I use to hide the couch, the corner of the hutch, my kitchen chairs and not just the rungs, the backs of them also, thank you God I do have another kitchen table, chairs and a hutch in storage. Other smaller items too numerous to mention. At least by the time he's two he should be out of this stage, hooray, we're half way there now almost.
I would love to train him for search and rescue to give him something to do he was meant to, his nose is always to the ground out on our property and because I don't think we have a dog of that type in this area.
Charlie is almost two now and has finally decided that furniture doesn't taste as good as it used to. We still get an occasional surprise but nothing like it used to be. He amuses himself a lot by playing with Bessie, the tiny basset that the breeder gave to us when we bought Charlie. He is totally bonded to her. She is no bigger than one of his back legs but he will take anything she dishes out. He won't even leave the house on leash unless we take Bessie too. Even our vet asks to take Bessie with her when she wants to take Charlie to the back room. Bessie had a litter several weeks before Charlie was born and I guess somewhere along the line he got confused and thinks Bessie is his mommy.

Bio: Did I forget to say he will always do what you want him to, except go anywhere without Bessie, but only when he's good and ready, just like the Bassets, thickheaded or as their dad would say "just like their mom".
