Arrival Story:
While reading the newspaper one morning my husband came across a free add for a purebred male Basset Hound pup, 7 mos. old. He asked me if I would be interested and if I'd call. I didn't think we had a shot in the dark of getting the pup as purebreds usually go immediately, however I could tell he really wanted to try so I called. The 1st dial was busy and I said there were probably people calling already but my husband can be very persistent and he asked me to keep hitting redial. After an hour I was getting quite discouraged but when I was just about to give up a young woman answered and said she just noticed that their answering machine wasn't set right. we set up a time that evening to see the dog. She told me he wouldn't eat for her and she didn't know what to do, they had a toddler that took up all her time and it was just too much. I asked but she told me neither she nor her husband had ever had taken the dog to the vet but that she had all his papers, etc. When we walked into their basement and they freed Pete from his cage for us to see I couldn't believe my eyes. This gorgeous [to me] pup, ran straight to me with his great big basset hound head, tail wagging like crazy and every bone in his body was visible through his skin. not one iota of loose skin on his whole body, even his eyes were pulled back tight. I picked him up and asked my husband to get the car ready because if everything was alright with everyone I would love the chance to get this baby healthy again. On the way home as I held him against my chest he peed on me and he's been mommy's boy ever since. The next day we took him to our vet and he had a terrible case of worms. I also thought he had been taken from his mom before he had a chance to be properly weaned because for about a month I would get down on the floor with him at mealtime and pretend I was eating while offering him little tastes from my fingers until he finally got the idea.

Bio:
Pete is 5 yrs old now, I can't believe it. Not a bone shows anywhere it's not supposed to and he even has loose skin as he should. What a beautiful , good tempered dog those people gave up. I gave them my phone# the day we brought him home in case they would want to know how he was doing but I never heard a word from them. My gain, I love that dog like crazy. Thank God for my husband's persistence that day!
