This is such a great contest! I don't know why mom didn't put me in before. I mean, I've been in this home almost 3 years now. Wow! That seems to unbelievable! I can barely remember what my life was like before. I don't much remember my old family, but I don't think I want too. I don't think they were very nice to me. When I first arrived here, I was always ducking my head like I was expecting to be hit and I would jump and viciously attack boots if dad would walk past me in work boots. I think I used to get kicked. Thank dawg I don't have too many of those memories any more. I do remember being out on the streets for a while. I didn't want to hang out with that old family anymore.

It was pretty scary on the streets though. I was only a little guy, about 18 months old! I was kind of hungry and getting pretty dirty. Then, something horrible happened. I was hit by a car!!! The animal control people came and picked me up off the street. Boy, I thought being on the streets was scary. But that place they took me too was just awful! When that car hit me, it dislocated my hip and that hurt soooo much. Those animal people just put me in a big concrete cage and didn't try to help me. They did give me food and water, that was nice, but my hip just hurt so bad and then I had fleas and an awful ear infection. I didn't think life was ever going to be good.

Then one day a lady came by to get some other dog and she saw me. She told those animal people she wanted to take me out. At first they said no because I was such a mess. They said I was going to be put down. Now, I wasn't sure what that meant, but I didn't like the look that came over that kind lady's face when they said it. Well, she fussed and fought and they finally gave me to her. Next thing I know, I was whisked away from that awful place and taken to a vet's office, where they took care of my hip and fleas. That nice lady said they were going to find a good home for me. I thought, oh no....I was thinking about my old home and I didn't want to go to a new one.

After a day or so that lady came to the vet's place and told me that someone had called about me. At first I was excited, then I got a little scared again. She told me that it was a very nice lady that called who would take very good care of me. She took me out of my cage and said it was time to meet her. She took me out to the waiting room which had a lot of people in it, but I looked at this lady and man sitting against the wall and I just knew! I went right to the lady and let her pet me and I licked her hand and then they were invited to come into the exam room to talk to the vet for my check up. While I waited on the table, I walked right over to this new lady and put my head on her chest and just looked at her with such pleading eyes. I could feel how gentle she was and how much she could love me. She looked over at the man and said, "that's it....you know he's coming home with us". OH BOY!!!! I was soooooo happy!

Now I know what the good life is. I'm loved, well fed, have anything and everything I could ever hope for. I have a soft, warm bed...plus I get to sleep on the big bed if I want! Toys, treats...I didn't know it could be so wonderful to have such a family. Now, I never wander away from home or my mom ever! I'm afraid of getting separated and losing this wonderful home.
