Arrival Story:
Our Alaskan Malamute had recently passed away and our German Sheperd and us missed him greatly. We decided we'd get another dog for our German Sheperd to play with. We found Moya's picture and fell in love with her. We went to pick her up and the people met us in a town half way between ours. They told us that she had never been in a crate, had a collar or leash on her and never been in a car. That should've been our first clue that things were not how they should be. We got her home and found out she was VERY scared of people especailly women. But within a day we had the basic obedience on her - she is VERY smart and a fast learner. It took us about a year and a half to get her used to people and she still shys away sometimes. She was also afraid of grass and will go potty on cement. She only goes in the grass if we or our other dog goes with her. She also had been very badly nurished and was walking on her ankles in stead of her paws. It took us 6 months to get her legs back to health and get her walking correctly. She has a problem with keeping weight on so she is on a very strict diet and seems to be doing fine now. She is 2 years old and finally can be a normal dog. She is very loving but because most of her puppy days were spent trying to get better she is now trying to be a puppy and doesn't realize how big she is sometimes. Moya and our daughter have a very specail relationship ever since we got Moya. Moya loves kids and will let kids do whatever they want to her. She has been that way since we got her even though her previous owners said she had never been around kids. We named her Moya because it is the Botswanan word for 'dog' and we thought it sounded very pretty.
