Arrival Story:
Unfortunately Lucy was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma. All her lymph nodes were swollen and her eyes got all buggy looking. Things didn't seem good for her. Much debate went on, should we put her to sleep now so she doesn't suffer? Treat her? In the meantime, she was dumped at my house. We have too many dogs as it is, we didn't need one thats sick. But she stayed the night or two, or 11!! And we couldn't help but fall in love with her. We ended up putting her on prednisone until we had all decided her fate. But, after watching her struggle even on the prednisone, we decided to let her go. So we made appointment on Monday to send Lucy to the bridge. Monday morning came around and she was up and about, perky, wagging her cute nubby little tail. Wanting food and attention and love. So we knew she was telling us that today was not the day. We have the good fortune of working with a wonderful vet who tries everything he can to save the dogs. He offered to donate the chemo (thanks Dr. Miller!) and he felt like we should try it and we'd take things one day at a time. So, my house she stays. I hope its a long stay.

Bio:
Lucy was originally found in the frozen food section of a Food Lion. Her owners were never found. So she was brought into Aarf, got spayed, all her shots done, etc. And she was put up for adoption. She is incredibly sweet. She never barks. She loves to eat, especially chicken.

She put up a good fight though. In the end, cancer took her anyway.

I'll miss her adorable howl. It made me laugh every time I heard it. Mom will miss her long ears swinging back and forths when she went chasing a squirrel.

I'm glad we got to know you Lucy. We'll miss you lots. Love you forever!

hey, who's that girlie living in my house?

Why haven't I noticed her before? My humans said she's been here several months. Well, I'll be. She smelled real nice. I thought I'd get to know her but apparently she would have none of it. So I got growled at instead. How rude!

The humans took off and left me today. Not fair. When they leave, I have to be caged up. Juuust because I may have once or twice (okay, maybe it was 20 times, sheesh) peed on the floor. Thats no reason to lock me up is it? Again, how rude!

Shhh, come here, I've got a secret. I'm getting my strength back and I've been testing my running legs for my big escape. Don't tell the humans that. I've got big plans. I'm going to some great restaurants. The dumpster behind the Cheesecake Factory is to drool for. And if you get to the dumpsters behind those chinese buffets at juuuust the right time, you can get a lot of lip smacking goodies and some of its that nummy raw stuff. This will be a great vacation. I just hope the humans don't get wind of my plans or I'll be toast for sure.

Luv,
Lucy Beagle

I've got a new game I like to play. Its called catch-me-if-you-can. *snicker* Since my human friends don't like to put a collar around my swollen neck, I usually get to go out to the bathroom off leash. And I've missed running around. So, sometimes I like to take a detour up the driveway. You should see my human friends running after me. Its pretty funny! hehehe. But darn it, they're faster than I am, so I never get far. And I guess I did that once too often because they put a lousy collar on me. Hmmmph.

I made it through the week without getting a fever. Woohoo! I feel great!

later gators,
Lucy Beagle
