Quinn loves to go to the park... unfortunately, his back legs can't take that long of a walk anymore.. but he still really enjoys going for walks around the block and up and down the street.
He can bow, hop, sit and even ignore a treat on command.
Quinn was a racing greyhound in the US in his younger years. He was brought to Canada at the age of 4 by one of the many local greyhound rescue organizations. He went to live with an older lady who he stayed with until he was about 7. Sadly, he became too much for her and she could no longer care for him.. so she gave him up to GLOHW (Greyhound Lovers of Hamilton Wentworth) and they found him a new home. He was in that home for 3 years as well. Early on he was very well cared for by the lady, but something happened in her marriage and the dog was left behind with her ex-husband... sadly, he did not care for Quinn well at all and at one point, Quinn even ran away. He was out on his own on the streets for a week. He was thankfully found, alive and taken to a local vets. He returned to the ex-husband's care, but shortly after, GLOHW was contacted and Quinn was surrendered back to the group.
When the caseworkers arrived to get him, they found him 20 lbs underweight and of the eight adults in the house, none of them knew when he had been fed last. They brought him to our house as a foster dog, and he's never left.
Quinn has been with us nearly 3 years now. He is doing amazingly well and looking forward to his 13th birthday.
He has abandonment issues and we've had to work with him on them, but it has been worth every second. He is a wonderful, happy older gentleman these days. Except for when those annoying little cats get on his nerves *grins*
He is starting to show signs of arthritis in his back legs, so he is on MSM and Glucosamine... which is helping immensely. He also has Lumbosacral Stenosis, which is currently being treated with Depo-Medrol shots.
Home Sweet Home.

Mom met some really nice people through a place called Greytalk.. and they led her to another place, called littermates.com. Littermates.com has compiled a huge list of retired racing greyhounds (like me) and their littermates. Well, between the help of the nice lady at littermates, and the nice lady at the NGA, mom found out about who I was before I became a pet. She says my racing name was PDQ Lee Hawkes. That I was whelped near Ocala, FL and I probably raced near there. She also found out who my dam and sire were (my mom and dad) and who my littermates were. Do you believe that mom had to look after 12 puppies? Yup, I'm one of 12!!
We don't really know what happened to my brothers and sisters, how long they raced or where they might be now... Mom is hoping she might find a way to find out... you never know....

So Dad went to work this morning, so did Mommy-Sue.. which is normal... but Mommy-Cara went out too.. and I don't like it when that happens. At least they make the little black cat go downstairs when they all go out.. but I really hate being alone, so even that doesn't make it any better.
When Mommy-Cara got home she took me out to the bathroom, which was really good because I REALLY had to pee. After that, we talked to one of the neighbours for a few.. but he isn't one of the ones who gives me cookies, so I didn't really care. After we came in I got lunch, lamb and rice AGAIN *big sigh* I keep telling them that I'd rather have something a little more interesting.. like a bacon cheeseburger... but they insist I eat lamb and rice for every meal... at least I got Mom good... she put my msm/glucosamine pills in pancakes for me.. and I managed to make one of the pills fall out of *2* pieces of pancake... so in the end I got 2 whole pancakes and a chunk of mozzarella cheese... I couldn't seem to make the pill fall out of the cheese... oh well.. not bad..
I think I am going to spend my afternoon napping on my downstairs bed... waiting for daddy to get home to take me outside to play....
