   Leave a bone for Selene

Winky, Puppaluppa, Serene Selene! Seleenie~

Doggie Dynamics:
not playfulvery playful

Sun Sign:
Quick Bio:

March 26th 2008

Selene LOVES when her dad snuggles her in bed in the morning! Mom usually makes her sleep in her crate or dog bed (on the floor)! She loves sitting on mom's lap and getting hugs and cuddles, and also enjoys playing with her little bro and sis (the cats)!

Aurora kitty never wants to play with her. *sigh* Selene aka Queen Selene, has been spoiled the last few months, so she hates not getting her way!

Favorite Toy:
Selene loves all toys! Her first toy, the pink flamingo, has the most sentimental value, but really ANY toy will do!

Favorite Food:
Selene is every pawrents dream, she never complains about her fruits and veggies!! So far, her fav meats are duck, and chicken!!! She enjoys a biologically appropriate raw diet!

Favorite Walk:
Ambleside, during the busiest times of day, so she can play with as many other pups as possible! Mosquito Creek, Lighthouse park, and the Caulfield cove and other trails near home.. Anywhere with mom, dad, and other pups!

Best Tricks:
Selene is a very confident, smart girl! With her injury and ongoing recovery, she got spoiled a tad (understatement of the millenium), and needs to go back to school. She knows who the pack leader is though, which is an amazing feat for any Doberbaby!!

Arrival Story:
I have wanted a red Doberman Pinscher for EVER!! After cleaning up my life and becoming mentally, physically, and financially able to take on the responsibility of dog ownership, I started filling out applications to breeders recognized by the Doberman Pinscher Club of Canada. Given the waitlists for the puppy I wanted, and probably my age and proposed plan of moving within the next year or so.. I waited for almost a year before getting hooked up with a breeder! I drove about 13 hours each way to pick up my baby girl since I was worried about air travel after what happened to one of my cats! Selene was great in the car and I think it sped up her potty training! no accidents the whole trip! yay!

Forums Motto:

Poor paw!!:
My sweet pup Selene broke two toes on her 16 week birthday! She was happily running in some long grass in the dog park, frolicking with the other pups, having a grand ole time!! On the walk back to the car, she was limping.. no yelping or crying.. But she's a tough little pup!! Mom, being a very over-concerned parent, called the emergency vet right away!! After examining the area, and finding no foreign bodies or cuts, we waited till business hours for X-rays! 2 broken toes!!! NO!!! Mom cried and worried.. her pup's career in schutzhund over before it started.. A full arm splint, cone-head, and prescription of kennel rest for up to 6 weeks??!! NO!! Oh to be a puppy with broken toes!! It must be horrible! The vet and Selene's family decided that her development, and quality of life is much more important than a sporting career, so she still gets short walks and to walk around the house.. After all, it's hard to restrain a high-spirited, young pup of any breed, let alone a Dobie!! She's still crazy and playful as ever! Always clubbing us with her big splint and being silly. The story goes on! At the re-check, the splint had somehow cut off blood flow to her whole paw, and it was dead!!! The vet was concerned that the whole limb would need to be amputated. After a week inpatient at the vet, she was allowed to come home to mom, who nursed her paw, hydrotherapy, honey, furacin, dressed and wrapped (3 times a day) until it was determined that the two broken toes would live, the other two, had to be removed. Selene has no pad on her front left paw, it's hyperextended, and has some lingering nerve damage that causes her to limp. With her favorite ruffwear boots, however, she runs and plays like any other pup!

I'm literally twisting mom's arm to type for me today! She has been sooooooo busy! With her new job, and lots of servicework to do here on the North Shore and in Vancouver, she never goes on dogster anymore! I just wanted to let all my pup pals know what's going on!!! Oh well, my pawrents are so sweet to me, even though they are busy we go to the dog park every day! There are so many to choose from down here... my favorite is Ambleside.. It is a beautiful walk along the seawall, with at least 10 dogs at all times, usually more, mom says that on a nice sunny day I have met 100 dogs in the hour and a half to two hours we play there!! It's wonderful! The closest dogpark to our new home in west vancouver is called lighthouse park. It is popular for people too.. so sometimes there are less dogs. Always lots of new trails to explore, and squirrels to chase!!! The big black ones.. they're too smart for me though, just when I think i've caught one, it climbs straight up a tree! drat. Another favorite thing to do these days is go up to cypress mountain and showshoe around with dad! They love me so much, that they work different times of the day and week, and I am never left alone for more than a couple hours at a time! What a lucky pup I am! It's pretty rainy here alot of the time, but I am grateful I'm not in Prince George when it's -36 out!!!! I still get long walks and plays in the rain, probably wouldn't happen if it were that cold out! After all, my fur is short, and I shiver, even if it's -1 or -2 outside! Luckily mom buys me coats and boots and stuff for the colder weather, and to protect my little paw! ANyways! Thats whats going on for me right now! Also, I'm turning one on March 26th. Any pups I know in the GVRD are welcome to come to my pawrrty... Mom is trying to plan it and set a date soon! YAY! Bye for now!

Today was the first day I was allowed to be in the house without a wrap on my paw!~ wooooooooooohoo was it ever fun. Mom keeps trying to make me stop licking at it. She bought me a bone that is as my body! It's called a dino bone! I'm supposed to eat it instead of my paw.. hehe! I also got a new toy! I am sure excited!! I might have a 6 month birthday party next week.. depending on the weather.. I'll let my dogster pals know so any pups in the area can come!

Feelin alllll riiiiiiiiiight!

Well! Mom's back to work now, so she hasn't had alot of time to listen to all my barking.. She is really tired.. My toes are looking good, the vet said I need to come in once a week for medical progress exams, but that mommy is doing a great job wrapping and caring for my paw, cuz it looks great! To mee, it looks funny, because I only have two toes in the middle and little lumps on either side where the other toes used to be.. but I am used to the bandage changes, and now mom can do it all on her own, without having to have an assistant hold me. I sit pretty still for her and let her clean and wrap my paw once a day....... BUT the rest of the time I am a crazy craaaaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzy puppy! Running and jumping and chewing all my squeaky toys and stuff! Mom says I must have forgot that I'm not supposed to jump up or pull the leash.. I am just getting so strong that I like to do it! I pullll so hard, even at 35 or 40 lbs or whatever i weigh, i am a strong puller!! I can also jump straight up into the air, at least 2 ft off the ground. Mom holds my toy above her head, and I jump as high as I can, almost to her face level!! I get to go on short walks again now, and I try to run so hard sometimes that i flop my bandage off!!! Good thing mom has this "Medi-paw" protective cover over the bandages, to keep it dry and clean! Well.. gotta go. mom has a dumb meeting at 630 so i have to be quiet.
wAGS Licks! and loves to all of my pup pals!
