Who Needs a Vet?
The other day Pepsi, our white Boxer, bent back her dewclaw at the skin. It was hanging from her skin and not bleeding too much. I cleaned it and applied a Melaleuca (tea tree oil based) gel to it then I wrapped half of her leg with a must have for any pet owner, VetWrap. Sticks to itself, not skin or hair. At some point throughout the last few days her claw CAME OFF! I consulted with a vet, got a thumbs up for what I had been doing and was told to keep an eye on it.

Dogs Rock!
I've been out of commission for the past several weeks and my family has been working hard to ensure I heal. They take the dogs out for walks, feed them...
The two Great Dane studs and the Boxer appreciate this effort but they also know that something is wrong. Things aren't happening like usual, Mom's tender love and care is missing. Acting out would be a natural reaction but my amazing dogs are having some down time, alongside Mom. We are so in tune with each other (all of us, dogs and people alike) that major surgery can't even knock us off stride.
With that said I am happy to announce that Brad Patterson's new book, Synergy Between Man and Dog, is now available at webbdogs.com!!

Stretching out the legs...
Tonight went well when we took the dogs out. We waited until after eight to go for a walk because it was too warm out earlier. With no words spoken, I retrieved the leashes and each of the three dogs sat. The two Great Danes and the Boxer waited patiently as I clipped the leashes to their collars. My husband and I walked briskly (that's the best way to walk with big dogs) on our usual route, after nearly twenty minutes we came to a large feild. The dogs all knew that they would soon be able to frolick freely but until permission is given, obedience is a must. Once the word was given the dogs reminded me of race horses; long, smooth, ever reaching strides, leaving little holes in the grass where there paws once held the weight of their body. When darkness fell upon us getting home became priority. First we were called over to chat with the neighbors who had some family from out of town sitting outside with them. I came close to chuckling when they commented on Molson's size. Now they are all curled up, sleeping contently. I reckon I should go do the same:)

Great August long weeknd!!!
While my husband busied himself with chores for the Lions pancake breaskfast to be held in conjuction with Keremeos's Kars under the K car show-August 2-, I considered how easily the dogs could be overlooked throughout the coming weekend. Everybody had something to do it seemed.
Easily solved.
Post-arrival at Memorial Park, I cheerfully accomplished any duties set out for me. On the first trip back to the house of many that would be made throughout that day I brought Pepsi, the two year old white Boxer, back to the park with me. The little community park was quite busy still, I would wait until there was a little bit more room before bringing out the Great Danes.
I walked around with Pepsi, watching her head tilt in curiousity at the different sounds and smells. My daughter took the dog out on an 11 year old's adventure. Pepsi enjoys being included in anything. Eventually it got too hot for her so I took her home and got Torque, our six year old Great Dane.
Torque was gentle and respectful - like usual.
Then it was Molson's turn, our 5 year old Great Dane.
He was ambitious, obedient and alot of fun to be around - like usual.
Most people that I paid any attention to seemed amused by the unusual size of my canine companions.
The fatigue caused by the planning and execution of this one day makes the memory of the rest of the weekend nothing more than a blur.

Gone Swimming..,
Yesterday was so warm that a layer of sweat formed around my body the moment I walked outside the door. To hot to take the dogs for a walk but they looked as though they would like to go to the river. My daughter and her friend wanted to go as well so the six of us hopped in the Jeep. At my friend's house near the river we also collected their puppy to have some fun with our puppies. After resqueezing ourselves into the Jeep we finished our short journey.
The dogs ran and played. Molson swam - tried anyways. I got my daughter, about 50 lbs. lighter than the dog, to help him make it to safety before he became exhausted. Torque, Pepsi, and the other pup enjoyed the freedom of streching out and running uninterrupted. One of them would cut off the other and they would all trip up and soon I would see nothing but blowing sand.
The girls built a beautiful sand castle about ten times because the dogs would run right through their building materials. Maybe we'll go back tomorrow:)

My Boy is HOME!!
What a lovely day.
Last week my Great Dane Stud dog, Molson, travelled in the car with my husband and I to Barriere to pick up our youngest daughter from Girls Love Horses horse camp.
After the wind-up show that was put on by the attendees of the camp we travelled to Vernon to drop off Molson for "studding purposes". He was left there for a full week to ensure natural procreation.
We picked up our dog from the gentleman that owned his Grandfather, a Great Dane Breeder, just outside of Kamloops today. How he ended up there is another story for another time.
Hubby, youngest daughter, my quite large Great Dane, and myself piled into our family car, ate fast food, laughed, sang, slept, and drove for over six hours. The dog was only there for the last three.
I will carry on with this story tomorrow. Simply too tired am I.

Dogs Available for Volunteer Work
If you (the reader) have read any of my previous blogs you have probably noticed that I care very deeply for my dogs. You may not have realized, however, that I am interested in having them provide some kind of community service. Things like visiting retirement homes for sure and also, as they are rather unique dogs, I enjoy parading them about. We all enjoy meeting new people! Could anybody with some ideas please leave a comment.
