A nature trail by the Uncompahgre river with the Rocky Mountains in the distance.

Best Tricks:
Can sit, down, stay, heel, roll over, crawl, hoop jump and is learning to shake paws.

Arrival Story:
He was up for adoption from the local shelter through our chihuahua's day care, and was used to socialize smaller dogs to larger breeds, because of his patient, unflappable personality. We watched him interact with our little Norman and fell in love with him. He went into adoption as a result of a broken home. Adopted on the 4th of July, this year.

Bio:
Whoever owned Sam previously spoiled him with table scraps, evidently. He is on a diet and exercise program and has lost several pounds. He is real clearly a kelpie in the color of the Red Cloud tradition, but has floppy ears (as some kelpies do, and what appears to be a naturally bobtail, not docked close to the body). Face is not quite as pointy as some kelpies I have seen. Australian Shepherd is the likely suspect for the other part of the mix. He's cute as can be. He loves people, even kids, and other dogs. He is calm in the house and an enthusiastic walker.

Breed identification::
The pound had no idea what to call his breed. On the way home I stopped in a farm supply store to buy collars, etc. A girl and her mother said he looked like their Kelpie except for the ears and tail, so I went online, especially the Working Kelpie (non-show dog)sites, and now I have no doubts about the Kelpie in Sam (formerly known as Pokey). He has some features like an Aussie, too, making him a one of a kind dog we love to pieces!
