Hope went for her first treatment for her HW last week. She had to be dropped off at the vet on a Monday morning and picked up on Friday afternoon. She did well while at the vet, but the next 4 weeks was what was going to be the hard part.
When undergoing HW treatment, the important part is to keep the dog calm so that their heartrate doesn't go up and they don't pant. If this were to happen the dog could have a heart attack and die instantly.
The first day that Hope came home she was so excited and wanted to jump all over us. Of course we had to stop this which was so sad-for both her and us. We had to crate her for most of the first week.
Towards the end of that first week (this past w/e) she has calmed down quite a lot. She is sleeping on the bed with us now and just hanging out. She doesn't need to be in her crate as often.
Some side effects to the treatment though is that she is making the motions and the sounds as if she is throwing up, but nothing is coming out. She also has a runny nose which is probably due from being at the vets all week so she will be on meds for that as well.
3 more weeks to go before she has to go back for one more injection. And then one more week after that before she gets tested again. Let's hope that all goes well, and this isn't hard for her.
