Arrival Story:
After the loss of our sweet Hannah Banana, we decided that there was no way that we could be a dog-free family. We also know how many thousand of unwanted dogs and puppies are in shelters everywhere, so we decided to open our hearts again to a new family member.

Bio:
On July 14, 2008 we visited the local animal control center. I know, I know - there are all kinds of sick, neglected, and sad story doggies at the "pound" but we also know unless one of the no-kill shelters rescues some of these pups, their lives are doomed. Of course we wanted to find the "perfect," well-behaved young female adult golden mix like our Hannah, but instead we found a little, sickly, skinny boy pup who just tugged at our hearts. This adorable little male retriever/lab was the smallest of his litter mates, had weepy eyes and a runny nose, but his sweet, curious spirit came through and our family decided that we have the love and patience to nurse this little guy into a strong, sound puppy. So we adopted Max. He wouldn't be able to come home with us right away, and the kids were just as impatient as one could imagine (I was too), but now Max is home and is a real sweetie. He is on antibiotics for his upper respiratory infection and is really beginning to heal nicely. He is one of the skinniest puppies I've ever seen, so we are visiting the Vet to get him on the right diet to meet his special needs, and while we know that Max isn't what others would consider the "perfect" puppy, he is perfect for our family and we love him already. Update 7/23/08**** Max went to the vet yesterday to follow up on his URI and he has received a clean bill of health! Only two more days of antibiotics and he'll be right as rain. He was tested for worms and parasites, and we are happy to report he is free from all these yucky critters. We started him on Heartguard as he is too young to test for heartworm, and he won't have to have his second series of vacs until next week - so good news for a pound puppy!! Also, Max seems to be quite intelligent and willing to learn and please. He is doing pretty well at night (wants to play at around 4:30am though) and is learning to sit, lay, and wait for his treats. Next we will tackle the leash training biz. What a joy our little boy is! ***Update 9/6/08 We added a new family member last week!!! Max now has a new friend, Nanny. She is a beautiful, sweet, timid 2 year old Golden Retriever, and so far Max thinks she is GREAT!
