Arrival Story:
I arrived at a Delaware SPCA in search of a dog. Any dog. I really did not care. I went right to Bunkie and stopped there. They told me big dogs did not get adopted quickly and that his time was up. Also, he was an adult dog, 2 and 1/2, and nobody ever came looking for him. He was picked up wandering the streets. It was love at first sight and off we went. They were so happy they cried, that Bunkie got a home. He lived to 13 and 1/2, when we had him euthanized due to poor quality of life from deteriorating hips. He was THE BEST DOG EVER. And we still miss him.

Bio:
Bunkie was quite a swimmer and also dove under water, quite the sight to see. He was also quite a talker and quite vocal, and always expressed himself when he was happy, which was often. He made us laugh often. aaaawooooaaaarrrrhhhhwooooo, or something like that, he would say. Watching him struggle to be the dog that he wanted to be as his hips progressively deteriorated was the most difficult thing I have ever had to watch. As both hips were dysplastic, surgery was not an option, and he was kept comfortable on pain meds for a long time. In the end, it was a struggle for him to get up, and I did not want him to leave the world reduced to that indignity. He was in considerable pain and had lost significant weight, so I hope we made the best choice for him.. Even our Vet sat and cried with me. It still brings tears to my eyes. I know you all will understand.
