Mostly a happy barkday

I hit double digits this week when I reached 10 years. Mom felt a little sad, says I'm "getting up there" whatever that means BOL BOL

It was a pretty good barkday, lots of attention, walks, belly rubs - wait! it must be my barkday every day cause I always get those things! I'm not much into toys, so no new ones, but my supper included a nice surprise--sardines! Love those little fishies.

I say mostly a happy barkday cause when we were out walking I got a rose thorn in my paw, ouch! dad noticed it right away and got it out, thanks dad, and the rest of the walk went well. We often walk through an old church yard which has an old cemetery and the pawrents find it interesting to read the tombstones. Me, I find it interesting to smell the rabbit poop cause it looks like a couple of black bunnies live there. I have only seen them a few times and they move fast, so I never have a chance - not that mom would let me go after them anyway.

After our big walk I had a pre supper nap and good thing I did because I heard later that some thunder and lightening had swept through; hard to believe since it had been such a nice day earlier. I don't think I would have liked that very much so I'm very glad I didn't hear it.

Onwards and upwards!! BOL BOL

Diary of the Day and Spa Day too

OMD,I woke up this morning to find all kinds of celebratory messages in my p-mail - couldn't think what had happened!! Then I turned to the Dogster front page and there it was, Diary of the Day, wow thank you very much! Guess somebuddy must have read my gripe about those Magic Windows !!

Mom said she had a surprise for me too - Spa day! But it's Sunday, I have never been to a spa on Sunday, aren't they supposed to be closed, isn't Sunday a day of treats - everyone works Monday to Saturday and then on the 7th day they treat? Isn't that how it goes.

I have to admit the groomer did a great job today and surprised both me and Dixie with new bandanas when we were done. On the way home we stopped at a park and gave it a good going-over, now it's time to take a nap before supper...

Thanks again Dogster, and every fur !!

What magic window?

what's the scoop on magic windows anyway? I hear pups talking about them dispensing treats, so I expected the same today when I was out with mom and she wanted a coffee. We had just come from the beach and mom said it's so cold we'll just stay in the car and go to a place with a 'magic window'

Major disappointment! Seems the only magic was the coffee she got, there was certainly no magic for me !! Mom made it up to me with some treats she had in the car, but it just wasn't the same.

So all you people who work with magic windows, listen up - improve your magic windows, and with it, your image (IMHO) !!

my new yard and gotta get me a bird ...

gosh we moved and everything and I never updated my diary, instead I got sidetracked yapping about that tiny person in the pet store last week!

Last October we sold our house and moved to a smaller town 90 miles north of us, the new house is something called a rancher, no stairs, and we like it cause we can fly out the sliding glass door in the morning and hit the lawn running.

Our new yard is nice, not as big as the previous one but I am pleased with what we've got, it's kind of a horseshoe shape, around 3 sides of the house if you can picture it. There are enough shrubs & bushes to wipe my beard on, flowers are starting to come up already. Dad got all excited and bought a garden shed!

There is a lot of twittering now, and I don't mean that thing on your cellphone - I noticed lots of birds are starting to appear, especially sparrows and robins - I startled one yesterday, almost got it too but it was faster than me. That sure got my interest, I hope I can catch one soon!

well I gotta go patrol the yard again - BAYL

Tiny scary person at the pet store

Mom is hoping to get a schnauzer group going in our new town,so today she prints up some fliers and invites me, and only me, to go along for a car ride to drop off fliers at various places.

It was a pretty nice day and so I thought this could be fun, I know at least one of our stops will probably be near grass (lots of new sniffing) and no doubt we will also go to a pet store, and I always need more treats ! BOL BOL

So we get to a pet store and I rush in but wait! OMD there was this tiny person in the pet store - mom said she was a 'baby' - ok whatever, it's a family owned petstore and mom and grandma both work there and take 'baby' to work with them. This tiny person was sitting in some plastic contraption, mom says it's called a baby walker. funny way to walk babies if you ask me, but I digress. As soon as she saw me she laughed and stretched out her arms, and I was ok with that, but when those wheels started turning and clattering, oh oh,let me outta here.

She headed straight for us. Mom and I tried to keep ahead of her, but she was whizzing around like crazy, making me nervous. we kept changing aisles so she wouldn't bang into us, but she always seemed to know where we were We had to grab some treats, pay for them and got out of there.

After several treats and a nap I've calmed down, but I'm in no hurry to go back to that store - maybe after baby grows up !

Car Ride Car Ride

OMD I have car rides coming out my ears!! This year it's been car ride after car ride - I'm not complaining, I ride good, but I never seem to get a moment's peace - you see, our house is for sale, so sometimes we have to bail out so a prospective buyer can view it; other times we are out house hunting.

Along with most car rides, unless it's raining or something, is a walk in the park !! So it's all good, but sometimes I just wish we could stay home a bit !!

Haven't found our new yard yet, nor is our house sold anyway - we hope to have it all nailed down soon.

My Secret Garden

July 11th 2010 12:54 pm

Drats, my secret garden is not secret anymore - I had a nice cool little nest going at the back of the house where there is a border of ferns, cotoneaster and shamrock - I beat a trail through the ferns and lie down in the cool shamrock, hidden by the cotoneaster and very private where I can spy on every fur who is out on the lawn - until a few days ago !

Mom finally noticed the trampled ferns; at first she thought they were just lying down because they needed watering so she did that - when they did not recover she looked closer and realized "someone" had been in there - her first thought was that some critter, perhaps a cat or raccoon, was overnighting in our shrubbery, until - carelessly - I went into my hiding place while she was watching - how stupid is that BOL !!

But wait, she didn't scold me - she laughed!! She got out her garden shears and removed the trampled fern leaves which, sadly, leaves my hiding place less of a hiding place. I can still go in there but it's not as much fun now that someone besides me knows about it, and not as private. I guess I'll have to find a new location ...

Moral of the story: It's elementary my dear Watson - always ensure no one is watching before you sneak into your hideout.

Bird Beard

so there was quite a down turn in the weather here the last couple of days; it had been quite warm with bulbs pushing up all over the place, when all of a sudden the temps fell and we had a couple of small hail storms in one day, battering the poor struggling flowers.

Cold though it was, we still needed some exercise so off we went for a long walk. We were going along a street where there were several big rocks on the boulevard, and then I saw it - a newly deposited pile from a bird flying overhead - a large steamy hot pile, on top of a rock - what was I to do, I was cold and the steamy pile on the rock was - well, hotter than I was.

Since I couldnt roll in it, I thought I'd wipe my beard through it ............... mom shrieked and pulled me away, but not til I got a good swipe at it ......... she said I was disgusting !! Disgusting!! Me!! as soon as we got home she gave me a big face wash and now she calls me Bird Beard !!

well I guess its better than being called bird brain ...
