well it's starting to look like a road trip around here...suit cases pulled out, mom muttering about clothes and weather, and what to pack... turns out mom needs knee surgery but can't get it where we live - too long a wait list, so we're going 90 miles away so she can get it earlier - just hope this means she's back to walking us soon, and throws away that cane thing, it makes us nervous.
anyhow we're going a couple days beforehand for some R&R as dad calls it, or B&B as I calls it - no not bed and breakfast - bark and bark !! staying in a pet friendly motel, and mom says B&B is a no no there - not sure I can contain myself but we'll see...
Bark at ya later...gotta go pack my stuff..

well here we are in 2013 and thank goodness the kids are back to school. I had nuttin' much to bark at over the Christmas holidays when they weren't walking past my windows, but it's all good again now.
They pretend they don't see me but I bet they can hear me !! I have to run back and forth between the front windows and the kitchen to see if breakfast is served yet, then I have to gobble it down fast so I can get back to work.
Weekends? well I don't even want to think about that - I have to bark at the neighbors for 2 days just to keep in practice...
Take care every fur.... BOL BOL

Some months ago the pawrents bought a futon that makes into a bed. It's for the occasional overnight guests, cause the room it's in doubles as computer room/office and mom didn't want to have a bed permanently set up.
I really like this futon, it's comfortable and it usually has a blanket on it that I can dig into, and I can also see out the window and bark incognito at anyone who is passing by. Now that I've discovered it I spend a lot of time on it. Mom is now calling me Futon Face, the way I burrow down and never want to get off !
So we had an overnight guest recently, and we asked her what she thought of it. She said it was ok for a couple of nights, but no good for long term. Yes! that's just what the pawrents wanted to hear, hehe, good for short visits, not long visits!
Well, the overnight guest might not have thought much of it, and I am happy about that, cause I'm calling it mine! Mine! Mine!

what a week it's been, I'm glad it's over... it started on Wednesday morning: no breakfast!! I just knew something was up, and sure enough, off in the car we went, just me and mom, to the dreaded dogtor place.
Next thing I know I'm feeling sleepy, tried to fight it but couldn't; woke up some time later - with less teeth than I started out with today ! Yup I lost a bunch of teeth, only got 8 now.
Then today mom hauls me back to the dogtor, now what! Chiropractic that's what. Mom thinks we pups must get out of alignment during surgery, being pulled around the table and all. Mom thought I walked a bit funny after my dental, Well she was right, my neck was out and so was my pelvis.
I'm feeling much better now, and guess what, I'm getting lots of yummy soft food too, even scrambled eggs this morning. I guess it's just until my mouth heals, or maybe longer, who knows.
don't fight the tooth brushing pups, it'll cut down on your dental visits and maybe save a few teeth too. Mom says it was so expensive that's gotta be my Christmas present, pooey - that's like getting coal in your stocking! Hope she can scrape up a few pennies for some Christmas treats!

wow my first assignment! A rescue in another town needed some buddy to do a home check in our town so mom said she could; and the rescue sent their forms, and it said to take along a dog if possible, so I was the selected guinea pig, er, I mean dog. Mom didn't think Dixie could handle it, too nervous, and anyway I am senior here so it should be me don't ya think!
so off we went to meet a 6 year old girl and her pawrents, then mom realized they have two cats, and I, being adopted myself, am an unknown with cats - so mom warned the peeps right off cause she didn't want to see anything "nasty" happen, especially on their turf.
The peeps assured mom that one cat was shy and probably wouldn't show up, but the other one likes dogs. Mom said that's fine, but we don't know if Sniffers likes cats!! But the peeps didn't seem bothered and before we knew it this huge cat strides straight for me! Mom froze on the spot, as a matter of fact I did too - me and the cat went nose to nose and sniffed each other, after that the cat ignored me, and I didn't bother him either. Mom speculates that maybe I was used to cats before, maybe I even lived with one. Well I'm not telling, let them keep speculating!
Anyway the home check went well and we sent in our report; and I guess that's the end of our story; home checkers don't always hear who the peeps adopted, but since we live in a small town and have the same vet as the applicants, it is quite possible we will run into them again, and then we can meet their new pup..
here kitty kitty!! Arroooooooooooo

Mom and I went to the beach this morning and I got lots of compliments - but before I go on, first let me give you a bit of history.
Me and mom used to walk together all the time, and the peeps would admire me and comment on my appearance (mom prides herself on my appearance you see), then Dixie joined the furmily so then the three of us walked - and since Dixie is smaller than me and also black and silver, whereas I am salt and pepper, well all those admiring eyes went to her, and most peeps never looked at me again :(
This past Wednesday mom took me for a dental - and as if that wasn't enough, on Thursday I went to the spa for bathing, clipping, dusting, whatever - the full meal deal.
So today mom decides she and I will try going to the beach on our own, and leave Dixie at home. So there I am, no competition, and oh the compliments!
Several peeps asked how old I am and when mom said 10 years, they couldn't believe it, the comments flowed "oh she doesn't look 10," "oh what a lovely coat she has," and on and on. It was just like old times :)
I think mom and I should go alone together more often !!

this is the second time this month I've had dire rears. The first time was July 3 after a neighbor had been running a band saw for a few days (I hate that noise) and dad disappeared (more on that later). When mom saw me pass blood she whisked me off to the dogtor; it was diagnosed as stress colitis and I went on metronidazole for a week.
Well the neighbor finished using the bandsaw and I finished my meds, (dad still not here though) and I was feeling pretty good and everything seemed to be working normally again.
Just two days ago another neighbor decided to run a band saw, oh oh, there went my stress again and another bout of bloody dire rears, another trip to the dogtor, another round of metronidazole.
Then mom decides to review the ingredients in our kibble. We have two kinds and one of them contains a lot of chicken. Mom suddenly remembers I don't handle chicken very well, now she is wondering if it could be that causing the problem. No more of that particular kibble and we'll see what happens.
And dad? he was in hospital for two weeks, but he's home now and slowly recovering. Now if we could just ban those saws !

OMD OMD I've been in withdrawal. It's been quite hot here so mom decided it would be a good idea to keep the blinds closed all day - which cut off my view of the street, and left me without anything to bark at !!
This went on for two days, and I was starting to get depressed. I had the back yard and rear windows but can't see anything much from there. I could hear stuff and sniff stuff, but I really need a visual to get me going.
Well this morning it was cooler with a breeze, and hallelujah, mom opened the blinds and restored my windows on the world - At first I thought I had lost my voice, but no. I just cleared my throat and I'm catching up on my barking now - does it ever feel good !!
gotta go, there's someone out there that needs a bark !

Mom says I'm becoming a barking machine!! Since we moved into a rancher our windows are more at ground level and I have a great street view, so I bark at the neighbors, the birds, the occasional rabbit, the mail person - ok ok, basically anything that moves !!
Sometimes I go on for so long that mom picks me up and moves me to another room, or puts me outside, "to cool off".
Well heck, we're a block watch community and we've got a sign in the window that says so, I'm just doing my bit from a canine perspective !!
Gotta go bark again, BOL BOL BOL BOL BOL

There was an hour long parade in our little town yesterday to celebrate Canada Day. The Santa Paws parade last Dec. had been such a 7 minute disappointment that we expected more of the same for July 1, so we were pleasantly surprised to see how the town really went all out!
After a day of entertainment in the community park the celebrations wound up with a fireworks display at 10:30 pm. mom was worried as I do not like fireworks at all, so half an hour before they were to start, she fed me and Dixie and got us outside for last potty in case we were too scared to go out later.
We were a couple of miles from the fireworks centre so didn't know how much we might hear, but we heard it loud and clear - some of the fireworks even made the windows rattle. But here's the thing - I curled up in a dog bed and went to sleep, didn't even notice the noise, while Dixie, who is not usually bothered by noise, paced nervously !
Looking back at past firework nights, mom figures I seem to be ok with the regular fireworks noise, its just those ones that kind of whistle that get me, and there were none of those last night.
I think I'll go dig a hole! BAYL
