Arrival Story:
I've always had dogs growing up s when I graduated from college in 1998 and was out on my own I knew I had to have a dog. I visited the ASPCA in Eatontwon, NJ to see some of the dogs there. I came across Mia during one of my visits and I could tell right away that she was unique. She was desperate to get out of that place. I was allowed to take her out into the 'play area' for a while so we could get to know each other better. However, Mia paid absolutely no attention to me...instead she scanned the area in an attempt to find some way to escape. She had one thing on her mind...."JAIL BREAK". It turned out that a woman had brought her there because she lived alone and didn't have the time to take care of her. She was only 2 years old at the time. Needless to say, I took her home the next day and she has been my shadow ever since.

Bio:
Just this past fall Mia had a bout with pancreatitis. She lost a lot of weight and was hospitalized for a few days. The rapid weight loss caused the doctors to suspect cancer. I was told that I might only have a few weeks with her. Needless to say, all of the tests came back negative and Mia made a full recovery and is now in perfect health. She started to gain the weight back rapidly and that's how the nicknames "Fatso" and "Fatty" came about. The nickname, "Somebody I Know" came from my wife. It was our way of trying to talk about her without her knowing. For example, 'I think "Somebody I Know" was on the bed again...'. Being the smart dog that she is, Mia has come to learn that those words have something to do with her.
