Arrival Story:
We found Sunshine at an animal sheleter near Jacksonville Florida in Feb. 1994. That was about one month after a dog we had for 13 years had died. We looked at many animal shelters in the area until we found the right dog. She came up to the cage and licked my daughter's hand. She was shy and sweet, just like she is today. She's 14 and a half years old and is a blessing.

I am writing this because Sunshine may not be with us longer. She can't control her bowl movements too well and is having trouble walking. She sometime shakes when she is laying down. We might be putting her to sleep this Monday, August 31. Writing this is helping me feel a little better. I will be so upset when Monday comes and we put her down. Precious will miss her terribly. Sunshine practically trained Precious to do her business outside. They are like sisters although they are two years apart. On August, 31, 2009, we had to put Sunshine down. It was very hard to do. When we left to go to the Veternarian, Precious knew that something was wrong and she wasn't going to see her friend any longer. When one of them went to the Veternarian, I would go and get the leash. The other one would go to the door as if she wanted to go, too. This time, that did not happen. Precious just stayed in my bedroom where the dog bed is. It has been over two and a half months since Sunshine died and it hurts just as bad, but I am gradually healing. Eventually we hope to get another puppy, not to replace Sunshine, but to give another dog love and another companion for Precious. The picture shown with Precious was taken in the morning of the day Sunshine was put to sleep. In that picture it was difficult for her to stand. Her mind and spirit was fine, but she was in pain. It was so hard for me to have to put her down, but I did not want her to suffer.
