Arrival Story:
One rainy Sunday, a family found a dog who had been abandoned on the side of the Interstate. Unfortunately, the family couldn't keep him because of their circumstances. When they called the animal shelter, they were told that the dog would be put down after three days if no one claimed him. They then contacted a local radio station, and one of the deejays sent out an email. This is where we humans come in! Katie and Nathan (along with their good friend Scott) called the family and arranged to pick up the dog. Once the rain let up, we got him and brought him home for a flea bath and some supper. The original plan was to foster him until the Junior Humane Society (a no-kill organization) could find a home for him. However, after keeping him for a week, we fell completely in love and decided that he would be the perfect addition to our family.

Bio:
The family who found him called him "Goliath", because he was so big. However, we didn't think that name quite fit, so we started looking for another. We tried out Levi, Sam, and Jack before inspiration hit. His full name is Henrik Smith, in honor of Henrik Zetterberg, Katie's very favorite hockey player of all time. Since Henrik Z's nickname is Hank (not Henry), so is our Henrik's!

I'm not feeling too good today. My ears have been itching, and Mommy noticed last night that they've got some buildup on the edges, which wasn't there before the dip. So now I have to go back to the vet. Mommy is sad, because she has to leave me in the crate all day while she's at work. She hopes that she gets the job with the orthodontist, because that one will allow her to have Fridays off. Then we can spend more time together!

No big plans - I'm just gonna lay in my crate and chew this rawhide. Hopefully Daddy will get off work early, and take me to the dog park to play. You guys have a great day!

Hello World!

Well, I suppose I should introduce myself formally. My name is Henrik Zetterberg Smith, but my family calls me Hank. Enough of that - read my profile if you want to know more! For now, let's jump right in!

Yesterday, Wednesday, was my first LYM dip since the humans found me. I have a little bit of mange, and I've been scratching and biting myself (I know, how embarassing!), so Dr. Davis said I had to be dipped. That was an experience, let me tell you!!

First, Mommy washed me with some Ivory soap. She was ticked off at Daddy, because she said that he should have already done that part by the time she got home. What she didn't know was that as soon as he got home, Daddy and I went to the doggy park to play with the other dogs! We didn't have time for things such as baths. After she bathed me, she sprayed me off with the hose. I thought we were done, but nooooooo. Daddy comes outside with a bucket of water, Mommy puts me in a long plastic box, and then the fun (NOT!) begins.

They poured that yellow, smelly stuff all over me! As if that wasn't enough, they made me stand still while they sponged it on my underside and rubbed it in. I thought the torture would never end! When they finally let me out of the box, I went crazy trying to get that stuff off! It was all tingly and yucky, so I did everything I could think of - rubbing in the grass, rolling in the dirt, scratching the ground, jumping up and down...I think I got it all off. Thank goodness I don't have to go through THAT again!

Mommy and Daddy seem really happy with me - every time I pee outside instead of on the carpet in the house, I get a Nutro Natural Apple Treat. I think I've got 'em fooled! I also get treats when I go willingly into my crate in the mornings. I don't mind it so much, but I am bored a lot during the day. Luckily, I can type, so I can share my day with you! I overheard Mommy telling Daddy yesterday that I should go to day care once a week, so that I can play with other dogs. Yay!!

That's all for now. I'll write more tomorrow!
Hank - out.
