Arrival Story: When my husband and I decided to get a dog, I had my heart set on a "purse" dog. We combed the papers, but every puppy we called about was spoken for. We started checking at animal shelters, but weren't having any luck. I stopped at a vet hospital to ask for directions to the Daytona Beach Humane Society and the people there said they'd been holding a small stray for a couple of months. Did I want to see him? I went back to the enclosures and there was a medium sized long-haired dog, obviously depressed, laying on his side. The attendant said he'd never seen such a depressed dog. We took him out to the exercise yard where he obediently did his "bidness" and then dejectedly looked out at the passing traffic. I was still thinking I wanted a tiny puppy of some kind, so I left, feeling very guilty. At dinner that night, I cried, recounting the story to my husband. The next day I still couldn't get that dog off my mind. I called my husband and asked him to go take a look at the dog . . . maybe we could just keep him overnight, see if we liked him. Stephen picked him up after work and brought him home. He was one HAPPY dog. Well, to sum it up, we fell in love with our Bodacious doggie. He is the sweetest, gentlest, big-hearted pooch. Our gift from DOG/GOD.
We encourage people to rescue animals like Bo. Our willingness to think outside our original preferences allowed us to have the dog who was really meant for us. I don't think we adopted him so much as he adopted us. What a great pooch!
