Birthday: December 5th 1998 Likes: Pets, and licking Pet-Peeves: Peridontal disease and pet owners who dont care for their pets teeth. Kidney disease is her other pet peeve, phoey! Dr. Zira also does not like larger dogs sticking then face in hers. She is fine with other dogs but would rathe rbe left alone. Favorite Toy: Not into toys at all Favorite Food: Merrick senior, and green tripe Favorite Walk: Short walks, but really she prefers to stay home. Her favorite walk is probably to her food bowl or one of her beds Best Tricks: Being a cute old girl Arrival Story: I was on a quest for a monkey dog, but I didnt want a puppy. I looked on petfinder and emailed lots of rescues but there were no appropriate brussels or affenpinschers anywhere. I was almost giving up when I emailed a brussels breeder in NJ to ask about older adults. Low and behold:
Dr. Zira's breeder, who runs a boarding facility, sold her as a pup, 8 years later the women who bought her, brought her to the facility to be boarded and left here there. Zira's breeder cared for her and was going to have her remain with her for the rest of her life, living in her home and in the boarding facility. I called her to ask her if she had any older adults for adoption and while she was not willing to place her younger adults in any home with other dogs or with people who worked she told me abotu Zira (called Samantha then) who was free and needed a good home.
About her name:
Dr. Zira is named after the female ape in planet of the apes who was a human psychologist. I wanted her to have an ape name since she is a monkey dog. Bio: Zira is a very sweet dog. She is a little shy and more independent then our other dogs, who are always right on top of us, but she will cuddle after she warms up and she particulay enjoys tummy rubs. She has gotten a lot more affectionate then when we first brought her home and now will even ask to be picked up. Dr. Zira is not too into tricks (she knows none) or long walks. Her favorite thing to do is lounge in one of her many beds, she isnt too crazy about the people bed unlike our other dogs, and she loves her brother Bingo. The two of them are having a golden years romance. Zira has kidney disease but it is in its early stages and with a careful diet of lower phosphorus (innova senior, merrick campfire trout) her bloodwork has returned to normal. She was initially a very picky eater and had to be hand fed, but that has changed and she is know a little bit chunky and eats her food with enthusiasm. I had my 6 month senior wellness exam and it went well. My bloodwork was good and my kidney values where only a little high, so it seems my kidney disease is being kept in check. I am aldo doing well after the loss of Bingo. I never even seemed to look for him. Mom and dad think I might thave known he was sick and so I was not suprised when he was gone. We were a cute doggie couple though and mom and dad are sad for me to loose my best friend, just look at the cute picture of us on my page.
I had a birthday recently (monkey themed since Im a monkey dog) with pink cake (12 years old) and a pink collar and treats. Now for Christmas I got a new pink sweater (and more treats) No toys since I donk like' em. Im an old grouch
Im twelve now and this marks my second birthday in my forever home. Mom has got me some nice gifts but she is saving them for my party. Hopefully that will be this weekend, but some stuff hasnt arrived yet. If it doesnt get here we will have to delay until next weekend Phooey! I am very excited about the potential for tripe. Mom doesnt usually have tripe in the house because my bulldog brother Bob gets too excited around it, and so does my sister Ping. They can have other food together but if there is tripe about (watch out) something about the smell makes them crazy. Even if they are separate from the food they start growling at each other.
Mom really hopes I will have a nice birthday-since I lost my buddy Bingo two weeks ago. I sleep on his old beds and I seem fine, I still have a good appetite. Mom thinks maybe I knew he was sick and that it was time for him to move on
