We began by researching the internet for a dog that would fit both our personalities. The Brittany came back as one of the possibilities, and although we weren't very familiar with the breed, it seemed to be the one to which we were both drawn. Since we wanted to start with a puppy, we began looking for a breeder. After some searching and interviewing, we drove a few hours to Ramer's East Lane Kennel to check out their two puppies that met our wants for a male dog of liver and roan coloring. We decided on Toby since he seemed more outgoing and responsive to us. Just as we were making our choice, we were met with a downpour. We wrapped him up in a towel and he slept snuggled up in Mommy's lap all the way home.
Mom and Dad think I'm a Wonder Dog because I'm everything they ever wanted in a dog. I am very loving and loyal and a bit of a velcro dog. I will give doggy kisses on request or when extra loving is needed or as a reward for good human behavior like taking me to the dog park or giving me a special treat. I will also stand on my hind legs to participate in group hugs with Mom and Dad. I like to be petted a lot and am sometimes referred to as pushy nose. This is cause I may need to nudge repeatedly to get petted when Mom or Dad get distracted with things like the computer or Sudoku and forget their number one priority. Even though I am of medium size, I like spending quite a bit of time on Mom and Dad's lap. I keep a very close eye on them, even at the dog park when I'm hundreds of yards ahead of them. Sometimes they try to trick me by reversing directions or hiding behind a tree, but I will either change directions very quickly or come back and find them.
Mom and Dad say this awareness is helpful on the agility course too. I've been training at WAG in Spring Grove since I was about a year and a half. It's a great facility with super instructors. They also have fun themed parties once a year. Right now I am taking private lessons with Mary once a week. Mom and Dad think it's helpful for fine tuning "my" problem areas, but we all know that almost all problems on the course are related to handler errors. They're working hard to build their awareness of body language, timing and ways to navigate different types of obstacles. I'll be patient with them cause I have lots of time. I've already received my Champion Excellent title in UKC and an Open Agility title and Open Agility Jumper title in AKC. So, my official name is UACHX Toby Wan Kenobi OA, OAJ.
Being a high energy dog, I like to try to visit the dog park everyday. There are 3 good ones near my house. In the summer, we often go to the Libertyville one because there is a lake for me to practice my fishing. Okay, I admit I've never really caught one, but I could spend hours just stalking them. I also like to have other dogs chase me. Usually they have a hard time catching me because I take them through wooded areas where I can evade them by jumping, weaving or crawling under things. (Boy, I guess that agility does pay off.)
My other favorite hang outs include the Montrose dog beach in Chicago, my yard where I can keep a close eye on those pesky squirrels, or to various dog fests, parties and events.
Mom and Dad say they enjoy taking me so many places becasue I have such a calm and gentle nature. I received my Canine Good Citizenship test and passed 2 levels of obiendence classes. I'm always ready to play with other dogs, but sometimes I'm a little shy at first around other people. Add my good looks to this and you can see why Mom and Dad love me so much.

I spent the day participating in 2 UKC trials at WAG. I'm working on my UGRACH (United Grand Agility Champion) title which means I need to qualify in each of the AGI-B, AGII-B and AGIII classes, with a combined score of 588 points or better, during a trial. I have to do this 5 times before I get this title. Well, I managed to do this at one of the trials today with Dad, but unfortunately Mom and I only qualified in the AGI-B trial. I had some weave woes and flew off the dog walk. We came home with 2 third place and 1 fourth place ribbons. It was a long day--about 8 hours--so we all took a nap once we got home.

Mom and Dad were in a bit of a panic last night when Dad announced my dog tags were missing. Dad knew I had them when I went to agility class on Thurs., but hadn't seen them since. It was already dark out when Dad remembered they were missing, so they searched around the yard and cars with flashlights and then through the house. They were worried about all they would have to replace--rabies tag, microchip tag, insurance tag, therapy dog tag, ID tag, dog beach tag. But then this morning when Mom was vacuumming, she noticed the ring of tags hanging from the spare bedroom bedspread. They lavished me with attention cause they were all worried that I must have struggled a bit, without them knowing, to free myself from that predictament.

Daddy and Mommy's youngest grandson, Cameron, wanted to visit with me today. He loves trying to get me to do tricks and I complied with some sit, stays and comes. Then we all went off to the dog park! We even took the longer route by the river. Cameron likes to play hide and seek and once again I was a good sport and tracked him down from behind different trees each time. When we dropped him off at his house, I also got some attention from a visiting neighbor baby. Mommy was proud of me cause when the baby petted me in a slightly pounding baby fashion I responded with a kiss.
