My last days

This is Kitty's human sister, writing her last diary entry in her behalf. Kitty was put to rest yesterday, around 4p.m.

Kitty has been going back and forth to the vet since mid-june of this year along with Trey. Her prescriptions started with painkillers, for her left hind leg and joints. During a check-up x-ray, her left forearm showed advanced signs of bone deterioration (osteosarcoma). Soon after her medication cocktail included steroids, vitamin e, glucosamine tablets, antibiotics, and etc.

By July, her left forearm began swelling, to which we found out that puss was forming inside as a result of the osteosarcoma. Her vet mentioned possible treatments which included general anaesthesia for biopsy, then amputation then chemotherapy - all of which were nevertheless NOT 100% guaranteed to cure her. Aside from that, vet technology here in our country is not as advanced as compared to the US where treatments like this have already been tried. With this, we decided to go the non-surgical route, which we felt was physically, emotionally, psychologically, and financially less draining to all of us humans and for Kitty herself....

It took a while for the puss to mature and begin to be extracted. Within one month, Kitty has changed. The turn of events were very fast. There are days when she tries to walk but there are also days when she can't even with painkillers. We often hear her cry out in pain. She started developing bedsores because she couldn't shift sides and move while lying down (even with assistance). During her last few days, she stopped eating (only water all day), her throat became phlegm-ish and foamy. Worms also started growing on her sores.

Its hard to see Kitty like this because she was always strong. She was the alpha dog, tough and strict but also very charming and loyal; loves to be tickled and sleep with her tummy facing up. She can get very jealous at times esp. if she's not given same attention as the others. She survived Parvo before she turned 1 year. She adjusted to having a slightly twisted left leg as a result of this. This same leg also started giving her problems with rheumatism especially during cold weather.

It was tough, hard and sad to see her go because she was my favorite. At least now I know that she' s very happy and pain-free in dog heaven, with her sister and best friend, Anna. This reminds me of our older family cats who have since passed on. Both Gonzo (April) and Wootsie (December) left us in the same year. Anna left us last January, and now Kitty - again 2x in the same year....I guess its harder for surviving pets to continue on especially if their "partner" leaves them.

I was out playing just now. All of a sudden the doorbell rang, and this Choochay threw the kitchen door open and ran out. As a general rule, me and Tracy and Anna are the only ones who play together. Sugar and I are ok, so long as we stay in separate rooms. I cannot stand her grabbing all the attention all the time as well as her cutesy-cutesy poses and whining.

I almost got a big chomp of Choochay's butt but we were broken off.

OF COURSE, i wasn't scolded! It wasn't my fault! I shouldv'e bitten her. maybe that would end her frequent escapades outside the house. Lately, I hear she's taken to shouting at everyone who walks in front of our gates - nuts!

It's been almost 2 weeks since our human dad saw sister Anna refusing to stand up and walk and thus took away our snack plate. I try to be nice to Anna by not getting angry at her but please! with this experiment, i have to say that I am the one losing weight and not her! My curves started showing again. Although i'm happy with the curves, i miss my pellets plate. I still try to reach through the bars and push the plate to my side of the room but when the annoying Trey sees what i'm trying to do, he all of sudden gets the urge to snack too! Coincidence or Intentional?
