Arrival Story:
After we moved to Idaho from Brooklyn, New York, we wanted to rescue a dog. At the Idaho Humane Society, we visited and played with 2 dozen dogs and after hours of searching, we started to head home without a new friend. We saw two enormous ears and a little sad gaze on our way out of the kennel. Her name was "Brooklyn!" I said, "they're closing, we have to take her home because her name in Brooklyn...it's fate." My other more reasonable half said that we hadn't played with her and the shelter was closing, but then his less reasonable sentiments kicked in. In the car, Chili was timid. At home, she was afraid of Tiger the cat, the garage door, her food, the collar we bought her, everything. For weeks she cowered and piddled in front of small children and her ears were always back, exposing a scared, sad puppy face. She never smiled, but we played with her all day despite this...every day. We quickly learned the basics of safety and behavior. Come, sit, stay, heel and of course, "get the squirrel." We learned to communicate in a language somewhere between human and canine. We then went on to learn that water wasn't scary, swimming is fun, and treats are tastiest after a bath, riding in the car is a great way to dry your wet nose and squirrels remain the public enemy number 1.

Bio:
Chili is a sweet, friendly, loving, perfectly behaved friend. She loves to play and chase squirrels. She hasn't caught one yet...
