I won a trophy at the Wiener Dog Derby!!!

Saturday we attended the 9th Annual Wiener Dog Derby in Azle, Texas. There were contests and wiener dog races. Zoe entered the "oldest wiener" contest. At 14 years of age, we thought she might have a good chance of winning.

Zoe is not the fastest wiener, so we have a dog friendly backpack that she has used for years. It is like a chick magnet for my husband. All the ladies just flock around him when Zoe is in there!

Addie came to support her older sister. This was also a good test to see how well she would do in large crowds. She did great! While the majority of parents asked first if she was friendly, we still had some very young children run up to pet and pat her. When little children are around, I try to always keep my eyes on her, but she did just fine. Addie dispensed a lot of kisses and enjoyed the extra attention.

The contests were held first. The best pet costume was awarded to a little mini doxie in a skunk outfit. She was just adorable. Next was the owner and pet costume contest. The winner was a lady that dressed as Goldie Locks with her three "bears" (Doxies dressed in bear costumes).

The last contest was the oldest Dachshund. The competition was fierce (she was the only entry) but she stole the show in her adorable pouch and claimed the trophy! My husband placed her backpack flat on the ground so she could get out and walk around, but she was not leaving her comfortable nest.

Saturday was a wonderful day!

The Vet

Zoe has been doing good. We thought we were at a point where her tumor (that is growing sort of fast) could be removed. We have a complete blood work up and it wasn't great. Her Kidneys are now not doing so well. Our Vet said they are functioning at 75%. He has changed and added to her meds. He also changed her diet. It is his hope that the meds were causing the Kidney problems. This all just happened on Tuesday so we have not seen any changes yet.

Hopefully the new meds will work better for her Kidneys so she is at a point where the surgery can happen. But if not, it is all about her quality of life. And right now she is happy. :)

We are going to the Dachshund Derby this weekend in Azle. They have Doxie races and different contests. Zoe will enter the "oldest" Dachshund contest. Personally, I don't think she is too terribly old, but in dog years I guess she is.

Feeling Even Better!

Hello!

Zoe is doing better! She finished her antibiotics Monday evening and visited our Vet yesterday. He said she looks good. Lungs sound good. WOOOHOOO!

We need to wait two weeks and see how she does. As long as she doesn't back slide, he will be able to remove the lump that he has been concerned about.

:)
