Arrival Story:
Kimmi was a pet store pup, originally bought by a man as a Christmas gift for his family, but the mom and kids were terrified of her puppy nipping and energy. The family returned her to the pet store, and she was going to be put down (all for acting like any normal aussie pup!). Happily, she ended up with us instead!

Kimmi is a VERY PETITE Aussie, but just meets the height standard. I have been asked many times why my Sheltie/Border Collie has no tail! Kimmi's big challenge is her "HYPER-friendliness" with people and dogs. She is very "soft", sensitive to criticism, and feels compelled to be your bestest friend in the world ............... We have attended obedience classes from day one, and started agility when Kimmi was 7 months old. Kimmi gets really revved up running obstacles, so classes can be a real challenge. Happily, she has finally developed an "on/off switch", as well as attention skills, and usually saves the bad behavior until we are done with class!.............. We have been making a lot of progress in agility, and hope to start competing Spring 2006. She is just taking a little longer to mature, as they say ................We added Mickey to our family 12/04, and boy, did that shake things up. Kimmi tends to boss him around, which no doubt comes from her insecurity. We say they are like a married couple - she nags, he ignores! ............. We SO VERY MUCH LOVE our little Kimmi-Girl, issues and all, and are thankful every day she is part of our family!

Health Crisis 5/05::
Kimmi almost died (she actually had to be revived) when she became severely ill with an unlocatable intestinal blockage. She was admitted to a Vet Referral Hospital, where emergency surgery removed a mystery yellow object!

Yes, things are improving at home between Mickey and me. Mom says that Mickey has finally decided to let me be the "alpha", and that I have learned that attacking him does not get me what I want.

Since we have come home from vacation, I have not touched him once! Really! I bark at him, and even raise my hackles up once in a while, but when Mom says to "KNOCK IT OFF", I freeze in mid bark, turn to her, and wait to for further instruction. That's right, Mom is able to interrupt an about-to-be dog fight. MAJOR PROGRESS!

So, Mickey is happier, Mom is happier, and I am happier! - K.

Well, we just got back from two weeks at Grandma's place in Myrtle Beach. I had a good time...sorta.

See - Mickey doesn't want to believe that I am the Top Dog, Big Kahuna, Ruler of the Roost. He just ignores me.

So, I decided in MB to teach him a lesson about which doggie is in charge.

Problem was, Mom and Grandma were not pleased at all with the way I was acting, and decided the crate was the place for me. Mickey and I were not allowed to be out loose together from then on. I spent daylight hours in my crate, and at night slept in Grandma's room. Mickey slept with Mom (but I still managed to attack to their door a few time, to remind him I was still in charge).

Ater a few days, Mom reintroduced us outside, with us both on leashes. Mickey completely ignored me again - only this time it was different. He had had enough of my antics, and basically told me "Forget You...You Don't Exist to Me."

That's right - I no longer exist to him. He just sits with his back to me, or moves away when I come close, and refuses eye-contact. I tried to make up with him, but I have a feeling that he has just had it with me. (Mom says she doesn't blame him one bit, because I have been acting like a big jerk.)

Now that we are home, things are so much better, though Mickey was too anxious to sleep in the kitchen with me tht first night back. Mom keeps me in my crate when she can't supervise us, but that's ok cuz I love my crate. Mickey is ingoring me less, but I know I have pushed him too far, and I plan to make amends! - K.
