Arrival Story: In the spring of 2002 we had to have our Red Healer put down, she had had a stroke. This had been the first time in my life I did not own a dog. By the fall I was ready! I viewed to dogs at our local animal shelter, but none of the kenneled dogs and puppies were what I was looking for. The shelter had a "show case" in their lobby, usually used for reptiles. But today there was a litter of 6 tiny puppies. The shelter worker explained that the mother had been dropped off ready to deliver her babies. She was a beautiful Papillon (they kept her as part of their "staff"). During the delivery, the were not sure if she was going to deliver all of the puppies because she was so small. But she did! They actually had been having a problem adopting the puppies out because they were so small. I picked out one of the pups.. it was a little girl.. I actually wanted a boy. The shelter worker went around the corner to put her back in. As she opened the case door, all of the other puppies, except one, ran to see what was going on. The pup that stayed walked up to the glass and put his paws on the window. It was a boy wagging his tail!! He was the one!! They gave me a box to take him home in - the box that they send hamsters and gerbils home in!!! He weighed 1.5 lb's, I use more ground meat than that when I make chili!!! He has been a FABULOUS pet!
