Arrival Story:
My husband and I and our young family had a little long-haired Chihuahua, and had just purchased our first home. We fenced in the back yard which was perfect for a real dog! I took my little boy to a local pound that had advertised a Shepherd/Collie female - my all time favorite blend! My husband admonished us as we left the driveway, "No Big Dogs!!!". When we got to the Pound, the Shepherd/Collie was gone, but another desperate behemoth put a hairy arm through the bars of her kennel and beseeched us to take her home. How could I resist? Needless to say, she was way bigger than my son at the time, but my husband fell immediately in love with her as well. The dog warden told us that they had found her, lost and forlorn, abandoned outside a Dunkin Donuts, waiting for her owner to come back and get her. Despite extensive advertising, her original owners were never found. I'll never understand who could do such a thing, but selfishly, I'm glad they did. It's definitely their loss!

Bio:
Chaka has been our one constant - the loving earth mother to all creatures great and small who have come to live with us since we brought her home. She is a smart, intuitive, loving and affable girl who's happy as long as she's with her people. Chaka lost her long-time gal pal Trixie in January of 2004, but shares her home with Brutus the Chihuhua, Thor the Shiba Inu, and four pesky cats, of whom she is afraid.
