Arrival Story:
My formers owners dumped me in the middle of an intersection, and I ran up to cars to see if they would let me back into the car. I don't know why they dumped me, but I think it's because I hurt my leg, and they didn't want to fix it. I was backing up traffic, limping in the middle of the road, and my new mom just happened to look out the window of her house at that time and see me. She went outside and called me over, but I was too scared and confused to come to her. After she went back inside for a leash, she resumed her search for me, and found me in a driveway. I walked right up to her when she knelt down in front of me. She picked me up, put me in a car, gave me a doggie bone, and immediately took me to her vet. I wasn't tagged or chipped and no one was looking for me at the shelters, animal control or other vets offices. My new mom agreed to assume responsibility of me. There wasn't enough skin to stitch up (bone was showing), so I needed to stay overnight for surgery to remove the dead tissue from the two day old wound. My new mom and dad picked me up from the vet's office the next morning, and I've been with them ever since. I had a second surgery to close up my wound, and my mom and dad gave me daily medication and changed my bandage twice a week for several month, but now I'm fully healed! I've gained 10 pounds since they found me; everyone comments on how muscular I am! I even have my very own kitten now!

My new life

Hello again!

I am dog of the week for the Deutsche Hunde Living Room! I'm so happy!

I can't believe that it has been two years that I've been living in my new home. Sometime last summer my big sis Anya and I became great friends. I rarely go outside without her now - I wait for her to come out with me. I think she realized that she ended up getting more treats because I'm here! I've also gained a few pounds, and am not so threatened when she eats my food. After all, she was here first, and I know that mom and dad will make sure they refill my bowl. We even posed together for holiday pictures!

I have a new kitten, his name is Scooter McGee. Dad brought him home - his sister found the tiny, sick kitten (URI, fleas, ticks, worms, ear mites - you name it, he had it) in her yard and didn't know what to do, so she called us. I became a doggy daddy that day, and helped to nurse the little guy back to health, just like my mom and dad did for me. He is a big cat now, but I still like to chase the other cats away from him. I don't like it when they play too ruff!

I also love my fenced in backyard. Some days, when mom is doing yardwork/gardening, Anya and I in the backyard for hours - I usually find a spot in the shade and take a nap. Occasionally, our golden retriever friend will stop by and we all romp and play. I'm not sure how I feel about my new boxer buddy playing in my yard, but I think I have a crush on the neighbor jack russel terrier - she is the bomb!!!

Things are good, except I hear mom using words like 'diet' and 'exercise.' I have gained 15 lbs since mom and dad took me in, so my old clothes don't fit anymore. Mom doesn't really have time to dress me up anymore because of her new job anyway, but she did say something about more walks - maybe exercise isn't that bad after all!

I'm so happy! I've been chosen as doggie of the week in the Deutsche Hunde Living Room!

In celebration, mom has taken more photos of me and posted them, as well as letting me use the computer to add to my diary. She's always blogging, so I might as well, too!

Gotta go - mom's going to make supper, and I have to help! (I help with the cleanup -if food lands on the floor, it's mine!)

My paw was officially healed a in July. I saw the vet that took care of me for the last time before she moved to Texas. She was very happy to see that I did so well, and that I didn't need a bandage any longer. The vet said that it was a great going-away gift for her.

I've been to the vet's office a few times since then, as I have a tendency to start scuffles with my big sister over food. I gained seven pounds in two months, so I'm used to scrounging for food. I still have to get used to the fact that there is plenty of food here in my new home.

The dog trainer says that I'm really smart and catch onto things quickly, so mom and I are going to work on my issues. I love my cat friends, as well as dogs that are smaller than me, but I do get a little defensive with bigger dogs. We've started clicker training, but I'm a little afraid of the sound of the clicker. (I'm also afraid of knives and newspapers, but I don't shake when I hear raised voices anymore, so I am making progress.)
