Arrival Story:
we have always wanted a mastiff but thought they were too expensive. then I called the shelter on another dog and they said that dog was gone I think it was a basset hound anyway, they said that they have a mastiff though. I saw her and thought whoa she slowly came up to me and gave me a little gentle kiss on the nose. I knew that she was special. she was so kind and not knowing her background just that she was left in an apartment for I don't know how long cause her previous owner went to jail and we thought she must of had puppies, she weighed only 109 pounds!! I was a little nervous around her but I never had to worry. bshe was lazy and slow and peaceful. but Our neighbor had a golden doodle that would bound over and knock my daughter over and lick her. I did not care for this cause my daughter just turned one!! My neighbor thought it was cute! well when shelby came home the neighbor dog started his full force run. Shelby blocked holly like she knew what was going to happen and growled at him like " hey man back away from my baby" he did all right!!! Well she passed away because kidney, liver failure. the vet cried when he had to tell me that there was nothing more that they could do . We had tried alot of things . For shelby it was worth the extra month or two we got with her. our whole family misses her. we have a new mastiff who is different from shelby but he is still a pup. and a boy and well different from our wonderful shelb but I think in the long run he will be good but when he barks too much or chews on something I think shelby would not do that haha. To anyone that wants to adopt a mastiff I would say do it they are big wonderful giants. oh by the way she got up to 160 pound before she died. Sometimes they are misunderstood, people thought that she was a rotweiler for the longest time!! but they are a good part of a family.

we got her name from when we were driving home from the shelter my sister was following us from the shelter and was on her cell phone trying to figure out a name, she said to me" how about mustang?" cause one had driven by. I said jokingly "how about shelby?" since my husband has two classic mustangs it fit perfectly she loved her name!!
