I Stood By Your Bed Last Nite

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear.
"Its me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here"

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, your arms were getting sore.
I want to take your parcels, I wished I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you that I'm not lying there.

More...I walked with you towards the house as you fumbled for the key,
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "It's me".

You looked so very tired and then you sank into a chair,
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.

Its possible for me to be so near you everyday,
to say to you with certainty "I never went away".

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew
That in the stillness of that evening I was very close to you.

The day is over.... I smile and watch you yawning
and say, " Good Night, Sweet Dreams, God Bless,
I'll see you in the morning".

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide
I'll rush to greet you and well stand together side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there's much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out; then come home and be with me.

Well, we're making another plea for North Mecklenburg Animal Rescue & Gunny. I'll start by letting Amy tell you about it:

Hi NMAR supporters and friends, this is Amy, one of the volunteers. This email is to tell you about a FREE and QUICK way to help NMAR----seriously hassle free, one click and you're done.
If we have our way, the subject line will be true. Gunny has been entered in a World's Most Amazing Dog contest, sponsored by a dog food company. I think most of you know about Gunny, but he is a rescued bait dog NMAR saved from a life of dog fighting. And, may I add, Gunny is absolutely INCREDIBLE. Gunny was my foster dog, and is now my forever dog, and he was entered in this contest to help out another NMAR foster dog named Hope. The prize that excited us was a year's FREE DOG FOOD and would save NMAR about $1,200 in food bills. It is specially designed for dogs with allergies. Hope, another rescue with a horrendous story of abuse, needs that food. Gunny is her foster brother and he is going to do his best to win for her. An additional prize is a seat on the dog food company's float in the Rose Parade for Gunny. That sort of freaked me out, until I realized what a HUGE opportunity this is for public awareness re: animal rescue, dog fighting and bait dogs.

People have volunteered to post this voting link to their facebook pages, to internet groups and bulletin boards, and to email to friends. Thanks for considering doing that. There is even talk that some teachers may incorporate this contest into their Social Studies lessons on voting....if you are a teacher, that would be great too!
