Arrival Story:
Vivian was found wandering as a stray in Cleveland Heights, OH and picked up by the Cuyahoga County Dog Warden. Husky Havoc RRT pulled her from the shelter and she is now in foster care until her forever family comes along. Viv was so emaciated when she came into the shelter that she was barely able to keep going. She has filled out beautifully now. She's also what we in rescue affectionately call a "gimpy dog." At some point in her young life, she broke her right hind leg and shifted the knee out of alignment; she never received vet care to have it properly set. The femur healed on its own, but she still has a laterally luxated patella. The leg is now rotated out (or "turned out" like a ballet dancer, hence her nickname ) and she has a bit of a limp. She doesn't let it slow her down though, and still gets around just fine. She just needs a boost to jump on anything taller than her shoulders, but as she'll likely never weight more than 40-45 lbs, that's not too bad. We'll be keeping an eye on it with the help of our veterinarian to make sure it doesn't start causing her any pain. She wouldn't be a good candidate for a sled team, but other than that, it shouldn't cause a problem. She also has some scarring around her neck that suggests she once had an embedded collar removed. It's clear that whoever once owned her, never cared that much for her. But she still loves people anyway, and doesn't have a mean bone in her body.

Bio:
Viv is about a year old, spayed female, husky-hound-GSD mix. She has a gorgeous ivory coat with splashes of dilute copper on her back, tail, and the backs of her (very adorable, oversize) ears. She has soulful brown eyes and a gentle nature. Curious, tolerant, sweet, and affectionate, she just wants to cuddle up with someone. She acts like a young pup and is just a happy-go-lucky little girl. She loves spending all day playing with another dog (or 3) and then all evening cuddled up next to you on the couch. Just a wonderful family dog. Would prefer a home without cats as she likes to chase them too much (then pounce them & lick them to death). She would make a good "starter husky" for those new to the breed. Congrats to Viv for taking Second Place in a Canicross race at the 2008 Trailbreakers Dryland Challenge! She's proof that gimpy doesn't mean handicapped, and we love her for it!
