To go for a walkie!
To have to stay in the house when she doesn't want to.
All of her toys wind up under the house - I think
Pork ribs, stolen cat food
Catching small treats thrown in the air.
I found Hershey at the Carrollton shelter - not the no-kill shelter (Operation Kindness), but the honest-to-goodness pound. The sign said 9 mos to 1 yr old, basenji-pointer mix, and that she had been given up because she was not housebroken. They said she had been owned by a man and a little boy. Whoever had her, she was very afraid of men and little boys when she first came home with me, but happy to report she just goes up to almost any adult anytime - and is much more open to children.
Hershey was the easiest dog to housebreak I've ever seen. She had one accident in the house, and never had another one until I was in the hospital once for 3 days. (She wouldn't let my fiancee take her outside - I guess she was afraid he'd take her away). She used to be afraid of men and little boys, but now she is incredibly loving and goes up to people all the time to meet them. She loves other dogs, likes cats, and some children - others she is very wary of (smart girl!) Everybody says "what a sweetheart!" She is the dog of a lifetime. I kept my apartment 8 mos after I got married because my husband thought dogs were supposed to live outside. However, the last two years she has gone outside as soon as it was full summer and tries to hide under the house - it takes real bribery to get her back in, until it gets below 70 degrees. Then she's all little Miss House Dog - lemme in! Drives me nuts!

I've been going this week every other day to what Momma calls "Doggie Day Care". It's different from the "Doggie Park" in that I'm new, I'm nervous, and I don't like it when Momma leaves me somewhere without her! But I got to play with some other dogs. The first day they just put me in with 2 other dogs, and they did an "evaluation" on me. They said I can come back which made Momma real happy but I'm still not sure about Doggie Day Care. Momma says it is not good for me to sit around the house all alone, all day, every day. It sure does get boring cause she is gone ALL DAY LONG to this new "job" thing she has going on!
Momma says we can go to the doggie park this evening! Fun Fun FUN!

Yesterday was the annual Dog Days in our town, and it was really nice - even tho it was hot as could be! Momma has been taking me to walk about 7am cause it's been so hot, and I couldn't understand why we were coming back after only 30 min of walking! She said she wanted us to get there early b4 it got too hot.
There were so many dogs and little swimming pools of water set out to cool everyone off. Momma bought a funnel cake and some iced tea, and I got a "microchip". Everyone said I was so brave cause they didn't hear a peep out of me. I was so tired after only an hour and a half that Momma brought me back home where I slept and slept! We love Dog Days - but Momma wants to know why they don't have them in April or October when it's so much cooler?

Wow it's been a long time since I wrote in my diary. Spring went by so fast and it is already getting HOT here in Texas! Momma is off from "school" so we have been walking a lot and going to the doggy park. We've both lost a little bit of weight cause of this! Momma thinks I've lost more than she has.
Dog Days is this Saturday and Momma says we will go early early to escape the heat. It's supposed to be "102 degrees", whatever that means. I'm so excited! Dog Days is something our town has every year and it is so cool. There are so many dogs walking around and all kinds of things to do for dogs - contests, music, stuff to buy - and did I mention so many dogs around? Momma says she will look for me a new collar there! Yayyy! I'll be sure to report back how much fun Dog Days will be after I go.
