Arrival Story:
I bought Dijon's brother, Java, as a 6 week old pup from Iditarod Champion Jeff King. Java has everything I want in a sled dog, except he has megaesophagus where food can get caught in his throat. I really wanted a healthy version of Java and when Jeff offered his brother, Dijon, I jumped at the chance. Dijon has low thyroid and is on supplements. He missed the 2006 and 2008 races, but was a wonder dog in 2007.

Bio:
Dijon is driven to run. When he gets loose I literally have to tackle him to stop him. In the 2007 Iditarod, Dijon was in lead seven miles out of McGrath when I stumbled in deep snow and they pulled the sled out of my hands. Dijon ran merrily down the trail with me following on foot making unkind comments about his ancestors, his progeny, and everyone in between. When the team got to McGrath the trail came off the river and past a cabin. Dijon was sure the cabin was the checkpoint and parked the team in the driveway as good as I could have myself - no tangles or anything, and waited for me to catch up. The owner looked out of the cabin, saw a dog team lying in the drive and sent a friend on a snowmachine to find the hapless musher huffing and puffing down the trail. When I got there Dijon gave me a "about time you caught up" look, and off we went again. :-)
