Our power was out during big storms in the summer. When the men finally came to fix it, they told my family that we left our dog outside in the rain... Our dogs were of course snug inside, and my family told them this, but they insisted so someone went to check. There was a tiny little matted dog shivering near the back fence... He was very dirty and COVERED in mats, so my family brought him in and dried him off the best they could. (I wasn't home at the time...)
The last photo shows him as he was before I took him to the groomer to be groomed and to remove all the horrible mats.
He was horribly matted--to the skin-- but not very skinny which lead me to believe that he was likely not outside for very long, meaning whoever owned him before neglected him and allowed him to become matted so badly... Poor thing. The vet told me he was about 6 - 18 months old and he had no obedience training and was not housetrained, so he may have been an 'outside dog'.
We finally chose a permanent name! "Stormy" because he was found during the storm and his fur is a stormy-gray color. But we still call him "Puppy" most of the time.
This puppy is a very friendly, happy dog who just loves to play! I've taken him to a puppy class and we're working on obedience and housetraining... He's currently a foster dog but will need to find a special person to adopt him, someone willing to pamper him and give him plenty of fun play/exercise, possibly someone who would take him to agility classes as he is very agile and loves to jump. We call him a little mountain goat because he will jump ANYWHERE he can like a goat!
NOTE: Stormy found a home!

Stormy/Puppy has found a new forever home! I am so happy but also sad because I miss him. (I will call him Puppy for the rest of this because that's what I usually call him!)
We met the potential owner Anique three times. First, I took Puppy to the park so he could meet her dog on neutral territory. She has another Shih Tzu named Reilly who is a few pounds bigger than Puppy and about 2 years old. Well, at first Puppy was scared and wouldn't go near her or Reilly, but then after a few minutes he warmed up to them and for the rest of the park visit he and Reilly were having a ball! He was still a little shy of Anique so she didn't really get to interact with him much. The dogs played chase and wrestled and generally had fun. Next, a few days later, they came to visit us at home so that Anique could see how Puppy REALLY is, because at home he is confident, loving and cuddly with people. Then she brought Reilly in and they just took off! They played: wrestling, chewing on each other, pouncing, and fast chases for TWO WHOLE HOURS non-stop! If you ever think Shih Tzus are not rough-and-tumble dogs think again! They looked very cute together too because between the first visit and the second Reilly had got a haircut nearly identical to Puppy's.
The photos on Puppy's page that show two dogs playing are of Puppy and Reilly. I will probably be posting more photos of the two dogs together when I go to visit Puppy or meet them at the dog park.
Finally we went to see the potential adopter's home so Puppy could get used to it and not be scared when he moved in. Again they just pretty much played the whole time. Finally on Saturday morning I brought Puppy to their home to stay. I got a message on Sunday from Anique telling me that the two dogs had played until eight that evening when they both cuddled up together and fell asleep.
A perfect happy ending!
