Favorite Walk: The Iditarod Trail

Best Tricks: Leading the team through rough trail condidtions where lesser dogs fail

Arrival Story: My main leader quit just before my first 300 mile race in 2002. I called Iditarod Champion Jeff King looking for another leader. Jeff said that Bass was not fast enough for the "a" team but too good for the "b" team. Bass has been my "go to dog" from then until he retired after the 2007 season.

Bio: Bass (think music, not fish). Bass is a Susan Butcher breed dog out of her Granite lines. Bass is not the fastest dog, but he is utterly reliable and there is absolutely no quit in him. We have had numerous adventures and I trust him implicitly. Bass was the star of my 2006 Rookie Iditarod team, running all the gnarly portions of the trail, particularly the coastal storms between Unalakleet and Nome, in single lead. Neither ice, high winds, blowing snow, blown in trail, or blizzard conditions deterred this great leader

Forums Motto: All the girls love a leader
