 Quick Bio:
Likes: She OF COURSE loves food, being petted & loved on, going outside & her new family!!

Pet-Peeves: She is afraid of toys and doesn't like to play too much & she's pretty unsure about being brushed.

Favorite Toy: She's slowly getting used to a very soft small bone (a stuffed one).

Favorite Food: Oh man. Shellie loves ALL food period lol.

Favorite Walk: Right now we're sticking close to home but we're going to have a play date with our friends April & Peyton at the doggie park!!

Best Tricks: She doesn't know any tricks yet but we'll be working on that too!

Arrival Story: I posted an ad on craigslist telling people that I was looking for a dog for my parents and I. We had a Cocker Spaniel (Cricket) up until 2003 when she passed away and my parents really wanted another one. This couple emailed me and told me that they had a dachshund and they would love for me to come over and meet her--and them. So I went to their house and I just fell in love with her. She had the sweetest personality, LOVED to lick and be petted and loved on, was FAT as heck(!!), had long hair sticking out everywhere and was just adorable. The couple gave her to me for free just 4 days ago (I adopted her 6/3/08) and it's been love ever since--for my parents too!!

Bio: I'm not really sure what the couple did to her--if anything. Shellie is very loving and cuddly yes, but she's afraid of toys and doesn't really know how to play. And there's her weight. She is extremely overweight and lazy. We're going to work on that (which is good for me lol b/c I need to work on MINE too!!). And, her tail is clipped. The couple said they're not sure what she's mixed with but I think she's purebread---she looks EXACTLY like a long-haired dachshund except for the tail. Maybe she is mixed with a spaniel but I really doubt it. I'll have a LOT of things to talk over with the vet when I take her. I'll update this portion when I do.

Well, Miss Shellie is doing a little bit better. She got a haircut day before yesterday....she looks totally different now lol. She is such a good dog. Even with the pain I'm sure she's been in, her disposition never strays from being calm, sweet, loving and extremely loyal. Our family is so much happier since we've adopted her. She will have a vet appointment very soon and we'll see what s/he says about Shellie's hip(s). Let's all keep our fingers, toes and paws crossed for her!! xoxo

Yesterday I was in the ER for myself and I guess at that time Shellie was having problems of her own. My parents told me today that yesterday she was dragging her hind legs with her if she had to walk. They said she wouldn't get up unless she ABSOLUTELY had to. Today she's doing better. She's walking but you can definitely tell something's going on--most likely with her hips. So we're going to get her in to see the vet. We only adopted her 3 weeks ago!!! I just can't believe this is happening. =(

Today I went to Pet Smart and I bought Shellie a comb, a pink collar (she's such a diva), Dachshunds For Dummies (lol...I HAD to get it!!) and a toy. We've been having toy issues. When we first got home that initial day, I had already had some toys for her. Well I rolled the ball up to her and she was really afraid of it!! Anyway, this toy I bought today is a little stuffed bone--perfect for small dogs. It's very soft and has a squeaker thing in it--but you kind of have to press hard to get that part of it to work. I think that's a good thing though since she's so afraid of the toys. I figured the noise would give her a heart attack. =)
So I had her on the couch with me and I put the toy by her face and talked real soft and calmly to her and she sniffed at it and eventually put it in her mouth. I then let her get down and I put it on the floor and used the playful tone with her (ya'll know what I mean---we all do it!!) and guess what? She played with it!! Well...chewed on it anyway. So we're off to a great start!
The Dachshunds For Dummies book is REALLY interesting so far. I'm learning a lot. In the later chapters it talks about training so that's definitely going to come in handy.
Other than these things, we're going to set up a play date with my friend April and her new puppy Peyton. We'll go to the dog park here in the Cape. I've never been to one before so this is going to be really, really cool.
Anyway, more later. xoxo
