Kayaking in the cold!

Well, fortunately, Mom found my fleece pajamas, so I was not too cold on our trip. It was okay when the sun was out, but it kept going under some big, dark gray clouds. I would have been warmer in my new Coach jacket, but it didn't come yet. Can't understand that, Mom ordered it this morning. Gee, really slow service! Fortunately, there was no one else at the pond, so no one saw me kayaking in my pj's.
Anyway, we did have a lot of fun. I was very, very careful, and I didn't even get my ears wet. Once I was taking a drink out of the pond, and Mom turned the kayak kinda fast, and I really had to scramble to not fall overboard, but I managed to survive.
Toto was kind of jealous, cuz I decided to let Skye be friends with me, instead of running away from her. Sometimes I am scared of people I don't know really well. She was giving me some food, so that helped! But, she was friendly with all of us... however, Toto and Jenny had to ride home in the crate and I got to go in the front seat with Skye. She took pictures of both her and me inside the car. Mom said she would put them on later cuz she's tired now. Speaking of, I am very tired, even though I took some naps along the way. Extra treats for the Beanster...

Wow, Mom said she was talking to the vet about me, and they think I might have low blood sugar, and that's why I keep falling asleep everywhere, especially when I go kayaking or running in the big yard. Sooo, she is gonna bring me some extra treats next time we go. She got some special ones that will give me a quick boost. Great, my plan worked!!!! Ya see, Ali said she was talking with some toy poodles when she was at the handler guys kennel, and they were saying that sometimes us small kids get low blood sugar and we get very, very tired and even sometimes fall down and look dead. It usually happens when we are exercising. Well, then Clyde was telling me that the same thing happens with labradors, especially hunting and field working ones. They both said extra treats would help prevent it from happening. Well, I LOVE extra treats, so I decided to try falling down and IT WORKED!!! Cool.

Working with Mom.

This afternoon Mom decided to take us down to the big yard. We all thought we were gonna play, but she had us help her work! I helped her get stuff out of the pond so the fishes and froggies could go to sleep for the Winter. It was pretty fun cuz every once in a while, she would scoop out a fish or a frog with the dead leaves, and my job (and Toto's, too!) was to find the fish or frog and show it to Mom so she could put it back in the pond. After all that, she put a big net cover over the whole pond and I tried to walk on it. Unfortunately, it has holes in it, so my feet and legs got all wet!
When we were done with the pond, we got to run around a little bit. I showed Mom some places in the fence where we would be able to jump over it, if we wanted to. Toto was really mad at me, cuz he wanted to jump over the fence, and now Mom will fix it so he can't! He called me a brown noser... I told him Chaz wasn't here right now and someone has to do it!
Finally, Mom made us all sit together so we could have a family picture since Daegan was visiting with us. I know Daegan from daycare, but he went to his new home before I came here, I think, cuz I don't remember playing in the big yard with him! Or sleeping on the bed with him, he hogged the whole bed last night and I almost fell right off the edge when he turned over!!!

Beanie the Boss

I went on over to the puppy obedience class tonight and Mom is still laughing at me! I watched them all do their work, Mom had Pinki be the demo dog cuz I am too good for that stuff. Well, she did let me demo the finished product a couple of times. Anyway, this is a puppy class, so they all play together after the work part. Well I get to play with them, too. There are a couple of pretty big dogs in there, and they were ignoring me pretty much tonight. In fact, they were ignoring me so much that a few times they actually bowled me over as if I wasn't even there while they were playing with each other. Sooo, I put on my big dog act, got as tall as I could, and ran up and barked at one of them. In fact, I followed him all across the floor, barking the whole way. When he got back to his Mom and Dad, I pranced in my bestest prance back over to Mom. She was laughing and laughing, and so was every one else! One person said I was so cute the way I picked up my legs so high after the puppy went back to his parents. Well, I really don't think they should have been laughing at me... I sure proved that I was the ONLY big dog in the whole bunch of them!!!!! I guess they are just jealous that I belong to Mom and not to them. By the way, Pinki hid under Mom's chair the whole time the puppies were playing... she is a little dog, I guess.

The Loch Knapp Pond Monster...

Well, the beginning of our kayaking trip was very nice. It was warm and sunny, and there was just a little breeze blowing. Mom said it was just enough to make the pictures prettier with a little sparkle in the water from the breeze. We went around to the island first, cuz we were all hungry, especially me! After I finished my lunch, I went exploring all by myself. I went down to the water's edge on the back of the island, and oh my gosh, I spied the Loch Knapp Pond Monster. I barked to warn the others, and he slid back down into the water. I was pretty scared, I had to run back up the hill to Mom and Skye. Fortunately, he didn't follow me up there... I think he can only move in the water??? Anyway, no one believed me, no one at all, but I did notice Jenny took a mighty flying leap at the kayak when she thought Mom and I were leaving her on the island. She missed, fell into the water, and she hopped out so fast we thought that monster had actually gotten her!!! I had to keep myself really low in the kayak until we got well away from the back part of the pond where I had seen him. I bet he eats dogs???? Speaking of eating... Mom gave me some of those new biscuits and I didn't fall asleep once!!!

Country living drawbacks...

Mom is pretty mad today. In fact, she is so mad that we are staying outside and away from her. Naw, we didn't do anything wrong. She was vacuuming the house and the vacuum cleaner wouldn't suck, not even our dog hair. So, she was checking it out and there was a whole bunch of holes in the hose. (Man, say that one fast three times!) She looked closely, and they were red squirrel tooth marks! Now, instead of going kayaking, we have to stay home so she can clean out the whole labrador room and find out where they are coming in and cover their holes with tin. She said every Fall they try and get inside for the Winter. Last year they ate holes in SEVEN almost brand new canvas crates she had put in there. The crates probably had some dog food in them cuz they were the ones she took the Frenchies to Denver in. Anyway, I guess the vacuum cleaner hose is not quite as valuable. But, suffice it to say, Mom doesn't like red squirrels very much. She said the only difference between them and rats is that they have furry tails!!! She said she thought the least us dogs could do would be to keep the squirrels outside where they belong. I didn't dare tell her I heard them running thru the walls in the bedroom last night!!! Our house was built in 1794, and it has lots of places for the little squirrels to come in and hide! I'll bet they are relatives of the original red squirrels from way back then. Good luck, Mom!!! My "faces" photos...

I decided I'd better explain those three new photos that Mom put on my page. When we got home from kayaking, she found those on the camera that she was letting Skye use. Well, cuz I am special (?), I got to ride loose with her instead of in a crate when we came home. It's a faily long trip, and me and Skye got pretty bored, so we decided to make some faces for the camera. Sorry some of them are a little over exposed, but it's hard when you have to hold the camera and take the pictures of yourself. You can't read the little exposure thingie. Skye also took my tongue photo, but Mom didn't put that with the others cuz you can see that when you vote for me. (Mom put the link right on my page so it would be very easy for you to vote for me!!!!)
Anyway, Mom says she will have to think of something exciting for us to do for the next couple of months, or else Skye will not come visit us anymore now that kayaking is done. Maybe we could go hiking, but it's hunting season and Mom doesn't want us in the woods. Hmmm, maybe we could work on some Christmas presents and Skye could help me with them. I have good ideas, very good ideas!!!! Maybe I will give you some previews later????

My friend Yuji...

Well, I noticed that my friend, Yuji has a new family member. And, I was happy to notice, it is a poodle!!! It's nice to know his slaves finally realized that he needed a "real" dog to round out his family. I sort of got the drift that he doesn't think this guy is gonna stay, but, if he's like all of us, good luck moving him out!!!

Not much happen'n here....

Pretty boring around here tonight. Mom's working on the 'puter, so we are left to our own devices. The bigger guys were on the dog bed, and I tried and tried to convince them to get off, or at least let me share with them, but they wouldn't. Finally I remembered that Mom had a nice cushion on one on her chairs, so I went and got it. I dragged it into the living room, and got comfy. Well, pretty soon Mom glanced over and saw me. Fortunately, she started laughing but then she got that dreaded camera out. Silly Mom!
I guess she thought I was cold and it reminded her of my new Coach jacket which had finally come in the mail. She went and got it and tried it on me. It fits perfectly!!!! Soo, I decided to model that, too. I am gonna need that jacket in this house this Winter. It is COLD in here, and it's only October. In the Summer we only have one big flat dog bed and we all lie on it together. In the Winter, we each have a small, snuggly dog bed and we don't share those at all!!! I usually push mine over next to the hot air register. I like to be warm and comfy!

Halloween is sooo much fun!!!

Wow, great day for the Beanster! I got to go to work and help Laurie and Tonya pick out costumes for all of us. It was sooo cool, they had a huge garbage bag of different stuff, like hats and pants and shirts and all kinds of neat stuff. Unfortunately for me, ALL the costumes were for bigger dogs like Toto and Jenny and the Frenchies. Sooo, I ended up dressed as a fair maiden, which wasn't too cool, but hey, what's the difference.... it's for Halloween!!!
After our photos, I got to run around at work for the rest of the afternoon, until Mom left early. She came home and looked all thru our closet to see if there was anything for me that wasn't too ladylike. Well, later she went to the store and came home with a cute pumpkin jacket just for me. She said she got it because it was nice warm fleece and it matched my hair. (Did I mention, Mom is color blind!!!) Maybe she will take my picture with it on? Anyway, she was right on one count, it is nice and toasty warm, and I am wearing it since it's not quite cold enough for my nice wool Coach jacket. However.... it is cold and it did spit some snow today, I saw it with my own eyes!!!!
