I spotted a skinny disoriented dog wandering onto a busy road. Before I could safely find a place to pull over and turn my car around, another car hit her and ran right over her. Another car stopped, and we got her out of the road. We called the local shelter, and when they came, they told us if no one claimed her within 48 hours, she would be euthanized. I told them no way, I had just sat with this poor dog for over an hour, and I gave them my contact info. When no claimed her, I had the shelter hold her one more day so I could get my house ready for her, and I claimed her.
By observation, it appears that by the time Lucky was 1 year old, she'd already been bred, fought, and either got loose or was tossed out, starved, and then hit by a car. She was very dog-aggressive at first, terrified of adult men, wary of adult women, completely untrained, unhousebroken, and had no idea of the concept of play. Happily, she now loves to play, is much more confident around adults, loves playing at the leashless dog park and gets compliments on her behavior, and is mostly housebroken. Still working with the on-leash dog aggression, but it's getting better.
I love being with Mommy!
