Arrival Story:
Nelson IS the first Irish Setter I ever bred. His mom was the fabulous MacKenzie, and I knew nothing about what I was doing. He was a pupsicle - and did have a sister, Claire, but :( she was accidentally smothered by Mackie at 8 days old. That was one of the hardest days of my life. I was stunned at the dogs reaction as well, MacKenzie actually grieved. In any case, Nelson was it. He became my baby, a VERY beloved big boy.

Nelson did not end up being a "showdog". He does have two agility titles. I learned quite a bit about the attitudes of some show people - some are not like me. A dog is not family, its only worth is how many times it can win in the ring. Well, not in my house. Nelson is the man of the house. My protector, my shadow. We are very dependent on each other. He is still nearly a hundred pounds with a frontend like a locomotive. He can still fly me like a kite. I bought my current house for Nelson. He mostly remains here in his little world, where he can't knock down small children or scare the bejesus out of them with his overfriendly attitude. As it is, he howls piteously out the windows whenever he sees one who ought to be playing with HIM. We've created a place where we can control him and he can be happy. With Mom, and the other dogs. That's all he wants. Nelson is also famous for watching basketball on TV and following the ball, biting at the screen when they shoot. He is a wonderful uncle, very patient with the pupsters, and protective of them. He tolerates a LOT from them, and from their momma, Summer. He is a patient loving soul, who is getting old and slowing down.
