Arrival Story:
For more: http://rescuedogdiaries.blogspot.c om/ I went to the Humane Society of Missouri's headquarters looking for a dog...the first visit with Gracie was very sad - the woman working had to carry her into the visiting room because she wouldn't walk...she was trembling and wouldn't look at me, and flinched when I pet her. I was told she may have been abused, but they had no proof as she was brought in by a family and "traded in" for another dog. After just a few minutes of sitting quietly with her, she scooted closer to me and finally looked into my eyes. I had to leave and wait for my landlord to call and approve the adoption, and when I returned, Gracie was waiting. She stood up in her kennel, wagged her tail and looked up at me. The process took quite a while due to being understaffed on a very busy day, but the whole time Gracie wouldn't stop looking at me or leave my side. She has made major improvements since I adopted her - she is very playful, loves going on walks, and has become close to other people besides myself, including my parents, my sister, and my roommate. She's still extremely wary of strangers and frightened of children and men, but we're still working on improving that.
