Birthday: November 11th 2006 Likes: attention.. she is an only beag! Pet-Peeves: squirrels up in her Pear Tree Favorite Toy: de-stuffed ones Favorite Food: non-favorite is celery Favorite Walk: At Toccoa Falls Arrival Story: On November 9th, 2006, We had to say good bye to our beloved beagle Quiggly, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge. This was a very sad day but Quiggly had lived for 12 years in a wonderful home since after her rescue. She lived to the age of 14. In the evening, I was at my computer trying to be distracted with mindless games . My husband was at his computer doing whatever he was doing. A while later, I got these instant messages from him. He was sending over pictures of beagles that had been rescued and needed homes. We had spoken about getting another girl beagle but were going to wait a bit, but in the mean time we filled out numerous application with various "beagle rescues" organsations in and around our location. Various faces of beagles were popping up on my screen. about a dozen or more had been looked at but none seem to grab my heartstrings. I said to myself, that is was okay for we weren't ready yet. Abigail's picture came onto my screen, sent by Hubby. Abigail stole my heart but I guarded my heart for "we were not ready". I applied for Abigail and sent many pictures of the yard that Abigail would be living and playing at. I closed my eyes and prayed to not get my hopes up so high. I checked my emails every day since. On the morning of the 11th November, I got this tugging to check my emails, as i normally do this in the evenings. There was this email from a lady who recues and foster beagles. June asked us to meet her at the Petsmart that morning. We went out the door and was on our way to meet June and maybe Abigail. (But, I was not getting my hopes up) We got lost on the way, and this was a bit of a drive. We finally found our way to the store. We arrived and saw a pen that contained several beagles but I spotted HER, in the midst of all of those beagles. "Abigail!", I hollered out unexpently. We approached June and introduced ourselves. She asked for us to take Abigail for a walk.. and see what we think of her. As we walked back to the area, I sat on the sidewalk to be on the level with Abigail. A couple of college aged girls approached June and mentioned that they came to see about Abigail. My heart sunk a lil. Then I heard June asking them if they were the ones who lived in an apartment and also had a beagle. Yes. I'm sorry, but this couple (indicating my Husband and myself) have adopted Abigail. That moment it felt like the time has froze, my heart dared not to believe what my ears had just heard. I looked to my husband with the look.. Abigail is ours? Just then a family with three very young children approached June.."We're here to look at Abigal". I held my breath. June stated once again, that we have adopted Abigail and though that another beagle would be better suited to their family.. a less energenic one than Abigail. (they later did adopt a fostered beagle name Lady). It was true! Abigail is adopted, by us! The rain began to pour, and we headed back on the road for the long drive to Abigail's new home... our home. That night, it dawned on my husband and myself, that this day was Veteran's Day! We are both Veterans, so Abigail became our Veterans dog! We celebrate every Veterans' Day with Abigail and a picnic, 2nd Anniversary will be coming this year! Bio: I later heard from one of the rescuers of Abigail's, the story of what happened to Abigail and her rescue. This is her story.
Mid or late September, Abigail was abandoned in a dog crate in the middle of a parking lot at a Petsmart on a Thursday night. It had rained that night, she was all alone until on Friday morning an employee arrived to work. The employee saw this crate in the parking lot and went to see about it. She found Abigail and took her in to the grooming part of the store. Abigail was cleaned up and looked after. They held her there at Petsmart, knowing that a team of beagle rescuers would be coming Saturday morning to show beagles for new homes. Abigail was with June for about a month before she came into our lives. I am thankful to the employees of that Petsmart and the rescue group of Abigail, Alcovy Rescue. Abigail is a Godsend... just like her predecessor Quiggly was too .
