ADOPT 09 CONTEST
ADOPT 2010 CONTESTApril 20th 2010 7:03 pm[ Leave A Comment ] I've always been a supporter of adoption. I've had many adopted furkids over the years my first was when I was 13. When I think of adoption I get happy and sad at the same time. Sad because I wish I could adopt them all, every one without a perfect happy home, where they are spoiled with the best food, exercise and affection that they could ever desire. Happy because, I adopted Kiki from a family who had an 'unplanned' litter. She has saved my life. As a medical alert service dog with over 30 tasks and work that she does to help me daily, without her, I would be in a permanent hospitalization inpatient home. I adopted her as a pet when she was only 6 weeks old. After a few months she started alerting me to my illness before I would get really sick. We then underwent 2 years of intense training to have her be able to pass the CGC and PAT tests to be a Service Dog. Now she is over 6 years old and still going strong, still working for me and with me. With her, I can have a life. I can go shopping, to the movies, I can drive :) and be alone in the home without a 'sitter'. I call her my little lifesaver, because without her and her adoption, I wouldn't be able to live the wonderful life that I can live today. When it comes time to retire my beloved Service Dog, I will go shelter searching for my next adopted Service Dog to train. Again that adoption will be a sad one (retiring Kiki) and a happy one (saving another life and having that life save mine daily).
