Arrival Story: For the longest time, my mommy was a *gasp cat person. Her family never had dogs growing up, but then she started working at a vet and got to know how temperamental cats can be. Then, she starting loving dogs more than cats. But, she still likes cats. Sometimes she pets older auntie's cat, and I wonder why she's not petting me instead. **** Anyway, she would scour petfinder.com
in hopes that she would find the perfect dog. Eventually, she found me in the classified ads section. My old family couldn't keep me due to financial reasons and decided to sell me and let me have a better life with someone else. **** In June 2003, she drove almost 2 hours up north and when I saw her (at the time, my name was Crystal), I thought she was a nice lady and I showed her my belly and let her give me a belly rub. I didn't know it, but she was going to be my new mommy. She thought I was perfect. She talked to my "then-mommy" and got as much background and information on me, but I don't think my "then-mommy" told her the truth about everything. Anyway, the new nice lady gave my "then-mommy" some money, and then my "then-mommy" went away. It was kind of scary, but I laid on the new nice lady's lap and slept on the way to my new home. ****
My mommy renamed me DeeDee, and I'm glad that she's my mommy now. She's the best ever! I love her so much, and she loves me!
Bio: Apparently, I don't have luxating patellas or hip problems, but sometimes I hop along on my front two legs and only one back leg--the one back leg changes from time to time. I've been looked at by three different vets and have had x-rays done, but I've been given a clean bill of physical health. I can't tell my mommy what happened before so she can only wonder: Was I injured before? Is this just a weird habit that I have? Is there any reason that on some occasions I become a three legged doggy? I guess she'll never know.
May 2009: I do have luxating patellas meaning my knee caps slide out of place. They luxate laterally (to the outside of my legs) which is more common in larger dogs. It's very mild and I'm not likely going to require surgery, but it probably explains my three leg hop. Mommy is so busy lately that she thought my birthday was tomorrow. Nope, it's today! I'm 8 years old!!! Mommy hasn't posted very many pictures of me lately, so she decided to post some. We're back from Atlanta and Mommy has started her second year of vet school. She's in her second week back, and she's already studying late into the night. Her roommates recently got new pets. There is a baby kitten who in comparison to me, makes me look big and there is a parrot who can talk and squawk loudly. It's a full house here.
Something that is exciting is that Mommy finally caved to the less natural/meat not being the first ingredient, though very beneficial Prescription Diet food t/d "teeth diet" to help improve my dental health. She's going to be giving the food to me as a supplement to my Karma organic food. She also purchased me more C.E.T. HEXtra dental chews so I can chew on something when she's studying. I miss those chews so I'm looking forward to when Mommy gets them in.

We are supposed to tell what kind of ice cream we look like and I look like plain butter pecan (no chunks) that hasn't been mixed well, some white spots and some darker cream colored spots.
Mommy and I are here in Georgia, and it's great. We go for long walks and we're living with a nice lady and her two cats. All of us get along really well, and Mommy will be buying a camera so I can post pictures of me and the kitties. We love all the parks and last week we went to Piedmont Park with auntie who drove down with us to help us settle in. That park is great and I was able to chase after my little squeaky tennis balls. There isn't much to update otherwise, except that Virbac VeggieDent treats were recalled in Australia only. Doggies were getting kidney problems and the treats may be involved.
