Arrival Story:
One chilly day in January ('08) I was searching Petfinder, looking for a pup for friends of mine when I checked in on Chinese Cresteds. I was surprised to see that a dear little female, "Delilah," was still looking for a home ! I had seen her in October but wasn't ready for the challenge of a fifth pup. Well, here she was - karma - waiting for me! So, I filled out the application and emailed it to the rescue group. A few days later we got the good news so I took the afternoon off & Spinn, Daisy & I drove to central New Jersey to meet her. We arrived at the pet shop meeting place and Delilah was waiting with her foster mom, all decked out in a fuzzy multi-colored sweater. Well, was she glad to see us, or should I say me - she gave Daze & Spinn a few sniffs & licks then leaped into my arms and joyfully covered my face with kisses!! I signed the adoption papers & check and before we knew it we were on our way home! Little Delilah was delighted - she rode patiently in her crate next to Spinn's while Daisy navigated in the front seat. When we got home introductions went well with the boys, Plumm & Paddles - I knew they would. I was mainly concerned with how the 3 girls would get along. For the next few days I pondered on a new name for this feisty little bundle of energy- "Delilah" just didn't fit - she wasn't tall & thin with a long flowing coat - she was a "cobby" Chinese Crested, short legs and longer body & pretty hairless - a very unique pup with endless energy, like 3 Jack Russels in a CC body! Finally it came to me: "WIDJIT" (widget = what you call something unusual, unfamiliar, unique) Perfect! She responded to it immediately!

Bio:
It's been almost a year and Widjit (the name "Delilah" just didn't suit this feisty little character - she's definitely a "widjit"!) has adjusted nicely to life with 4 buddies. Daisy and Spinner have taught her the rules of the pack and play with her, Plumm puts up with being sniffed, licked, bumped over and walked on, and Paddles just stays out of her way. Long after Daisy & Spinner have retreated to my lap, Widji continues to play on, racing around and shaking up whatever toys are on the floor. Finally she'll join us for a nap, under her little fleece blanket... The vet pronounced her a "cobby" purebred Chinese Crested, a bit long in the body, but typical in all other ways, including canine acne - we're now in the process of clearing up a dandy case of blackheads that have changed her whole coloring : 2-3 baths a week with special shampoo, Stridex pads, & lotion with emu oil to condition her dry skin have started to change Widjit back to a lovely silver-grey color. She's getting used to the kitchen sink with the nice little sprayer and has her own lavender terry bath robe to wear so she doesn't get a chill. The vet's added a fish oil supplement, 3V Caps, to her diet of no-grain kibble which is really helping her skin & furnishings. I can see the difference already. And rawhide chips and bones keep her busy and use up some of that extra energy!
