A Loan From God

God promised at the birth of time,
A special friend to give,
His time on earth is short, he said,
So love him while he lives.

It may be six or seven years,
Or twelve or then sixteen,
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for me?

A wagging tail and cold wet nose,
And silken velvet ears,
A heart as big as all outdoors,
To love you through the years.

His puppy ways will gladden you,
And antics bring a smile,
As guardian or friend he will,
Be loyal all the while.

He'll bring his charms to grace your life,
And though his stay be brief,
When he's gone the memories,
Are solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But lessons only a dog can teach,
I want you each to learn.

Whatever love you give to him,
Returns in triple measure,
Follow his lead and gain a life,
Brim full of simple pleasure.

Enjoy each day as it comes,
Allow your heart to guide,
Be loyal and steadfast in love,
As the dog there by your side.

Now will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call,
To take him back again?

I fancy each of us would say,
"Dear Lord, thy will be done,
For all the joy this dog shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.

"We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known,
Forever grateful stay.

"But shall the angels call for him,
Much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And try to understand."

A poem that I would like to share

1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be painful: remember that before you get me.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me- it is crucial to my well being.
4. Do not be angry at me for long, and do not lock me up as punishment.
5. You have your work, your entertainments, and your friends. I only have you.
6. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand and know your voice when speaking to me.
7. Be aware that how ever you treat me, I will never forget.
8. Remember before you hit me that I have teeth that could easily hurt you, even accidentally out of fear, but I choose not to bite you because I love you.
9. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, stubborn, or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I might not be getting the right food, or I have been out too long, or my heart is getting to old and weak.
10. Take care of me when I get old; you too will grow old. Go with me on the difficult journeys. Never say: "I cannot bear to watch" or "Let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier for me if you are there, even my death. Because remember that I love you unconditionally

I am just popping in to say thank you to all of my wonderful friends for their lovely birthday greetings and wishes that I received for my birthday on Sunday, June 6th. I truly appreciate each and every one. Mommy says that since I turned 3 years old that I am an adult dog now and must act my age. Pfffttt, what is she thinking? Yesterday when our human family was here, I showed them that I still have lots of puppy left in me. I played with the little girls and once I even go so excited that I zoomed, zoomed, zoomed through the house. Everyone was laughing at me and so what did I do? I turned around and zoomed some more. I can run from our family room, through the kitchen, into the living and make a little tight, quick turn; then run back through all three rooms again. I did that four or five times and then stopped to see everyone's reactions. They were all laughing; so I thought it necessary to entertain them agin. I must admit that I was a bit winded but what fun! This getting older thing isn't so bad!

Today is my Mommy's birthday and so she and I are sharing our special days and celebrating together. She doesn't seem nearly as happy over another birthday as I am. She says that getting older is not for the faint of heart. Hmmm, wonder what that means?

Yesterday (on my birthday), Mommy let me sneak a little piece of birthday cake and some ice cream. *rubs tummy and smiles to herself* Oooh, that was really good. Then of course, I got my usual doggie food for supper with yogurt on it. Hmmm, hmmm, I love yogurt.

Today, I am hoping that the human brothers will bring more birthday cake and that I can sneak another piece of that yummy stuff that they call cake. Heh, heh!

Mommy says that she may bake a cake for the both of us. Her favorite is black walnut cake. She says that it is vanilla cake with black walnuts in it and vanilla frosting. It was a favorite that her Mommy used to make for her when she was growing up. Now, I don't know about those walnut thingies but vanilla cake sounds pretty tasty to me. *drool*

Oh goodness, I got a little side tracked there thinking about all of those yummy goodies. I want to mention all of my special prezzies that I received yesterday. Mommy was busy babysitting and didn't get my thank you tended to as she should have,so we will thank everyone here.

First of all, I want to send a belated thank you to friends, Pooh-Angel, Hermie-RIP, Blackie, Cashew and family for the yummy hamburger that they sent on May 31st. They also sent along wishes for a happy summer. Well, this summer is starting off pretty good so far, and I truly appreciate their gift and good wishes.

I also received a yummy watermelon slice and said "enjoy your summer" from the family of Max-in loving memory, Cracker, Bowser, and Moses. That was so sweet of them and I do believe that I may really like a nice slice of watermelon. It looks quite juicy and sweet and I do love to eat, you know! BOL

I also received a chocolate cuppy cake from our dear freinds Clawdia and all of her family with the happy birthday song inside as the message. I know that is what was enclosed because Mommy sang it to me. Woo Hoo, a special song, just for me! Thank you dear friends. That was so sweet of you. I wonder how they got that song inside that message anyhow?

Then there was a cute party hat from my friend Sunny. He sent me birthday greetings and said that he has missed seeing me in our group. I must admit that Mommy has not let me play on the computer very much lately. I am going to have to have a little discussion with her about that. Sunny had a cute picture of himself enjoying some summertime water sports. That Sunny is quite the athlete, you know! Wonder if he likes to zoom through his house too?

Then there was a big chocolate cake from our special friends Marley, Sailor, Hobo and Moose. Oh my goodness, that cake looks so yummy. I wish that they lived closer so that we could share that cake. But of course, with my appetite, Mommy says that I could easily eat a whole cake by myself if she would let me. BOL
Well, thank you so much for that yummy cake and your birthday wishes dear friends.

I truly appreciate each and everyone of you and thank you all for helping me to celebrate my happy 3rd birthday. I can't understand why humans don't like these birthday thingies because I think that they are pretty fun. Well, I am off to go running and maybe sneak a piece of birthday cake and some ice cream. This is going to be a fun day. Mommy says that they are going out for dinner tonight and that she may bring me home a doggie bag too! Now what more could a girl ask for? Mmmmm, Mmmmm!

I've been tagged!

Well hello friends.
I've been tagged by the very handsome and sweet Jake. I need to state 7 facts about myself and then choose some other friends to play too.

So let's see:
1. I love to eat! (Well, I AM a lab after all) BOL

2. I love to play ball. Well, I chase the ball and bring it back but what I really love is to play keep away from Mommy and Dad. Hee Hee

3. I love to pick on the cats. Mommy scolds me and tells me NO, but I just can't resist a good chase if I get the chance.

4. I really hate it when the cats swat my face. Ouch! Those toenails are really sharp.

5. I like to sneak in the bedroom and take a nice long snooze on Mommy and Dad's king-sized bed. Ahhhh!

6. My favorite thing in the whole world is to go to our farm and run through the fields and the woods. There are different sights and smells each time that we go there. A doggie's paradise.

7. I love to act goofy and make people laugh at me. (A typical lab trait) Heh Heh! We'll do anything for attention.

Now, let's see I need to tag some friends.
I chose:
1. Sunny
2. Noel
3. Sailor
4. Furby
5. Cat (who is actually a dog) *Giggles*

Daddy's working me to death. *Groans*

Oh my dogness, I am literally dog-tired. I absolutely love going to the woods and running but today was something new. Daddy said that we were going to the farm to cut wood. Oh boy! I love the farm! I love the woods! This should be an ideal day.
Well, things started out as usual, but Daddy took the van and trailer and Mommy and I followed in the car. When we got about half-way back the lane, Mommy asked if I wanted out to run. Well, of course! I love to run; so I gladly hopped out and took off down the lane. When I got to the woods, Daddy was already there and making all sorts of loud noise. Eek! What is that sound? Bzzz, Bzzz, Bzzz! I cautiously approach to see what is going on; by then Mommy is there too. She heads off into the woods and so I boldy and bravely preceed her. When we got there, I could see that Daddy was cutting up logs and that explained the loud noise. Well, nothing that I could do here and besides that noise hurt my very sensitive ears. So I decided to explore.
I ran and ran but kept on checking back with Mom and Dad and they kept a very close eye on me. If I got a little too far away, one of them would call me and I would come running right back to them. Then all of a sudden, they came out of the woods with the smaller trailer and unloaded the wood into the big trailer. Well, looky here---an empty trailer and no one to ride in it? I could take care of that little problem; so I hopped right in. Mommy got in with me too and we rode the trailer back into the woods. What fun!
Then they were busy cutting and loading wood into the little trailer again; so I proceeded with my explorations. I found all sorts of good things to smell and to paw at. I even did some serious digging but I still kept checking back with Mommy and Dad. Only problem was that I kept getting all covered in saw dust. It was all over my fur and on my face. Mommy kept telling me that I should be careful or I would get saw dust in my eyes; so I decided to leave there and check out the field behind the woods.
Pretty soon, I saw the little trailer going back through the woods and to the outside edge where they unloaded the little trailer onto the big trailer again. Well, happy days! This has been quite exciting and fun but I think that it is getting time to go home and hit the couch for my nap. But, wait! What's this? Oh no, the little trailer heads back into the woods again. So I hop a ride and go along to see what is going to happen next. We rode quite a ways further this time and then Mommy told me to hop out. There was more logs that were already cut up and so they busily began loading them. Then back out to the big trailer to unload. Well, I say that it is surely time to go home now! So I start back down the lane and head towards home. If Mommy won't take me, I will go all by myself. But it sure is a long ways. Pretty soon Dad called my name and I had to turn around and go all the way back to the woods. Whew! This doggie is starting to be one pooped puppy.
OK, One more trip into the woods and I hope that we will be done. I tried to get Mommy to let me hop in the car but she was too busy walking along the edge of the woods. Well, I decide to follow along and try to speed things up. One more load, Daddy promises and then we will be done. At last! I start picking up some of the smaller pieces of wood and trying to help out but Mommy says that the ones that I choose are too long; so they cannot be used. Besides when I would try to carry them to the trailer, I would get caught up by another tree and couldn't get through the pathway. I was stuck! Mommy, help! But she didn't come to my aide; she was too busy carrying wood. Oh well, off to do some more exploring while they finish up.
Finally! The little trailer makes it's way back out of the woods and over to the big trailer. I stand by and watch as they throw the last pieces onto the big trailer. Then I most helpfully try to lead Mommy to the car so that we can go. These people are seriously cutting into my nap time now and I am one tired pooch. Mommy says that we can't go yet because we have to hitch up the little trailer behind the big trailer and do some other stuff. We finally walk back to the car and I hop in. Mommy backs up but then we just sit there! Well, what is this all about? I'm ready to go Mom, what's the hold up? She says that we have to follow Daddy and the big trailer all the way home so that he doesn't lose any pieces of wood or chainsaws or anything. Well, this is just the pits. I think that I am finally on my way to napland and then we only travel at about 35 miles an hour. (I could almost run as fast as this if I weren't so tired).
We finally get home and Mommy parks the car and let's me out. Ahhh, nap time! But NOOOOO! Now we have to water the chickens, feed the chickens, get the mail and help Daddy put things away. Is there no end to this punishment? My tail's dragging Mom. This pooch is used to veggin' out on the couch every day but today things are just not working out.
After much patience and a little of the pitiful, sad eyes routine, I finally win them over and we head for the house. Mommy opens the door and there is my beloved couch. Ahhhh, at long last! I hop up in my favorite spot and within two or three minutes my little eyes are closed and I am in dream-land. Daddy tells Mommy that he thinks that I am one tired little doggie; boy, he doesn't know the half of it. If he had only made half as many steps as I did today, he would be tired too. BOL
Well, I've learned one very important thing today. It is an awful lot of work to bring home all of that wood that keeps us so comfy and warm all winter long but it is worth it. I still love going to the farm and I still love running through the woods and I don't even mind helping gather up the wood and over seeing the whole process. But Daddy is going to have to change his schedule so that he doesn't cut into my precious nap time.
These humans are seriously disrupting my couch time and it just might be the death of me. Hey, a girl has to get her beauty rest each day, 'ya know. Oooh, I am one tired pooch!

Vacation news and other stuff

Well, I am a bit behind on writing in my diary but I have been a very busy girl. Lots of things have happened in the last couple of weeks so I will try to get all of my information updated.
First of all, Mommy and Dad went on vacation the last week of August and I had to stay at home with a petsitter. Yep! Just like a babysitter but a petsitter. Well, whoever heard of such a thing! Mommy would not be content to go away for a week and leave me in the pen all alone and so she made arrangements with a friend to petsit for me. Boy, was I glad of that too. It was really hot here at home; in the 90's so I was really happy to be allowed to be in the yard and to enjoy all of the shade from our big trees. Mommy even left me two wading pools full of nice cool water so that I could cool off when it got too hot. Mommy was worried that I might be tempted by one thing or another to overstep my boundaries with the invisible fence; so she asked her friend to keep an eye on me. This friend/petsitter would stop by our house in the mornings and let me out of the pen. She would even play chuck-it ball with me until I was hot and tired and then she would leave for awhile so that we both could cool off and rest!
Pretty soon, she would be back to check on me and to play some more. This lady was pretty fun and I enjoyed her visits. She brought her own fur babies along one day but I was not happy to see them; so she left them in her car and just played with me.They watched but I was the one who got all of the attention! BOL! Mommy said that the other doggies might have played with me but I decided that I just wanted to play with the nice lady that brought me treats every day.
One day this lady even asked me to get in her car and we started towards town, but I was kind of nervous to be in someone else's vehicle and so she brought me back home. Little did I know that she had intended to take me to McDonald's for an ice cream cone, or I would have settled down and been a good doggie. I was just worried that she might take me away from my house and not bring me back or even worse that she might take me to the VET!! I should have known that she wouldn't have done that to me, but this lady was still somewhat of a stranger to me and I didn't know if I should trust her or not. Next time I will know to sit down and be a lady and maybe I can get one of those ice cream thingies.
Well, I began to look forward to this lady stopping by and she would come about three times a day to check on me and then in the evening, she would let me help put the chickens to bed and gather eggs. Then she would get my dinner ready and give me an egg in my food (just like Mommy always does); so things were pretty normal and I did enjoy having company each day. She was very nice to me and she was an excellent chuck-it ball thrower. I finally decided that she was a pretty good petsitter after all.
The first day that Mom and Dad were gone, one of the kitties that lives in the house escaped when the little grandaughters came and forgot to close the door right away. So this lady would call and call for Tuffy each time that she came, but he was in hiding and wouldn't show his face. Then one morning he came to her and she put him back in the house again. He had been gone for three days and I could tell that the petsitter was very glad to see him. I was quite happy too because now she could pay attention to me and not worry about that silly cat any more. She was very careful to not allow him or Pickles to escape again and so she got to spend more time playing chuck-it ball with me (as it should be)!
Do you know what else this petsitter did? She kept taking pictures of me and the others too. She even made a cute little album that Mommy told me about; she said that it brought tears to her eyes. I don't know why it would make tears but humans are so silly about such things sometimes. The album was a day by day account of what happened at our house; so that Mommy could see what all we did while she was gone. There were several pictures of me with my chuck-it balls, a picture of each kitty and the chickens and even a picture of one of the eggs in the nest that the lady gave me for my suppertime. Hee Hee! Isn't that silly? But it made Mommy happy to see these pictures and she said that she was going to keep this album forever and always. Well, I guess that Mommy must have really, really liked my pictures!
Anyhow, when Mommy and Dad came back from vacation, I was really happy to have them back home again. It is nice to have a petsitter, but it is really nice to have Mom and Dad back home and to have everything back to normal. They were really glad to see me too when they got home and I could tell that they had missed me. So now I am back to my old routine and I get to come in the house every day again. I really liked being in the yard and enjoying the shade trees, but you know, there is just something special about the ceiling fans and the air conditioner. Ahhhh!
And guess what? Mom and Dad have even started to let me sleep on the king sized bed for my afternoon naps. How about that? Mom thought that Dad would not allow that but I guess that he really missed me while he was gone 'cause when I slipped into the bedroom and hopped up on the bed, he just laughed at me and petted me. Boy! I should have tried that before. Hee Hee
We have been taking walks every evening now too since it has cooled off some. They will ask me if I want to go for a walk and of course I act all excited. So we hop in the car and take a short drive over to Dad's farm. There is a long drive-way that goes a mile back through the fields and we park at the end of the lane and walk all the way back to the woods. Sometimes, we even walk a little further and go back to a river that I can splash in. Only we cannot go to the river right now because the crops haven't been harvested yet. I am really anxious to have the beans harvested so that we can go on down to the river but in the meantime, I really enjoy our walks through the fields and into the woods. Boy, my nose is really in overdrive with all of the interesting smells that I find. One evening we saw 3 deer and a raccoon. Then all of a sudden, we heard this almost deafening loud noise and it kind of scared me. I had never heard such a noise before. Mom said that the neighbors were revving up their dune buggies. Wonder why they would do that? And what is a dune buggy anyhow? I don't think that I like them whatever they are because they hurt my ears.
Well, I have helped Mom put the chickens to bed and gather the eggs tonight and it is almost dark; so I have to get my supper and head off to the dog pen and my nice little secure doggie house. It has been another interesting day and I am one tired doggie. We did not go to the farm this evening but Mom took me for a nice walk down the road and we saw some more deer. Boy, that was fun but I am ready for some sleep now. So I will drift off into dreamland for another night and bask in the light of the full moon that shines in my door opening this evening. Ahhh, life in the country is very, very good for this very happy doggie.

Banned to my pen again! (Heh, Heh)

Well, this has been one exciting day. I have been kept so busy that I am utterly exhausted this evening.
First of all I helped Mommy put up a tarp over the top of my dog pen so that I could have some shade. Well, actually I watched and she did the work. BOL. She had to climb on top of a big wood pile to reach the top of the pen and then she went inside to string a rope through the rest of the it and tie it down. I hopped on top of the doghouse and watched and she even sat on the doghouse with me for awhile while she was putting the tarp over that side of the pen. Mommy told me that I was really a good helper.
Then Daddy was upset because the raccoons have been getting into his sweet corn patch. So, he set a live trap last night and he caught one this morning. Well, I didn't even get to see it right away but I could smell that critter from way across the yard. I just kept going to the garden to see what was going on but I couldn't see anything. I am not allowed to enter the garden or I will be in REALLY big trouble and besides the underground electric fence runs right past there; so I would get shocked if I go too close. Oooh! I don't like that one little bit. So I just kept an eye on things from a distance.
Then finally, Daddy went to the garden and brought the live trap out. He set it on the ground so that I could see! WOW! I was so excited and that ole raccoon started to snarl and hiss at me right away.
I just didn't know what to think about that, so I just took my big ole paw and swatted that cage. (That'll teach that sassy little ole critter). BOL
Well, that cage just rolled right over and the raccoon was upside down. *Giggles* I just thought that was tremendously funny; so I just kept doing it, over and over. That ole raccoon just kept hissing and I just kept swatting at the cage and I rolled him clear across the whole yard. Wheeee!! Mommy scolded me and told me that I shouldn't get that ole raccoon all scared but I was having so much fun. So, I just kept rolling that cage and pretty soon, Mommy joined in the chase. She was trying to catch me and I was rolling that cage as fast as I could go. Oh my dogness! I've never had so much fun. I was even frothing at the mouth because I was so excited. Mommy was chasing me and Daddy was laughing. Well, she finally grabbed me by the collar and made me go in my pen for awhile. Ahhh, Mom, I was really having fun playing roll that raccoon. Hee Hee! I was sooo tired after I went into my pen that I just slept for a couple of hours after all of that excitement.
But that wasn't the end of my fun day. This evening, I was helping Mommy get the chickens to bed (as usual). This is one of my daily duties to escort Mommy to the hen house and I stand guard while she closes the door after the chickens go to bed. I don't know how she ever managed to get those chickens to bed before I was here to stand guard and oversee things. She says that I scare the chickens by getting too close to the fence, but I know better. They just don't want to go to bed but would rather stay up and play with me. They get so excited when they see me, that they just flap their wings and squawk like crazy and run all around their pen. (Silly ole biddies).
Anyhow, after we were all done with the chickens, I turned around to escort her back to the house and I couldn't believe my eyes! There was something white running across the yard towards us. It was kind of small and about the size of a cat. I had to rub my eyes to be sure that I wasn't seeing things. It was a miniature dog! Heh! Funny looking little runt. He was mostly white with large brown spots and very muscular looking but he was a shrimp. I could walk right over the top of him. Well, things are looking up---a new play toy, I am thinking.
So I did what any other decent fun-loving hostess would do, I put my front feet out in front of me and my rear end up and wagged my tail to welcome this strange looking dog. Well, he didn't want to play; he just followed my Mommy around. Now, I am not having any of that nonsense. I don't share my food and I don't share my Mommy, buster; so you'd better be on your way. I just walked over the top of him and growled and you know what that little shrimp did? He growled back at me!! Of all the nerve! In MY yard, taking over MY Mommy and then growling at ME!!!
OK, no more nice doggie. I've had enough of this little ugly intruder; so I decided to growl again and then I pinned him to the ground. I'll show him who owns this household! Oops! Frothing at the mouth again. That'll show the little runt who's boss. (Maybe he'll think that I have rabies and he'll take off) BOL
But do you know what happened then? Mommy scolded me and grabbed me by the collar again; she made me go back into my pen!!! Well, this is getting old. I couldn't believe it. Was she actually going to let this intruder follow her around and put me in prison? Humpf. Well, I'll show her! I'll show them both, I will just jump on top of my dog house (doing my Snoopy imitation) and I will ignore this situation! Oh wait, I can't do that!! I haven't even had my supper yet so I do the only thing that a big brave doggie would do, I whine, cry, whimper and try my best to look pitiful. Well, it worked! Mommy brought me my food dish and some cold, fresh water and she told the intruder that he would have to go home. Hee Hee!
Hey, wait a minute! Mommy went back in the house and left me out here in my pen; all alone. This isn't what I wanted to happen. Yeah, it is dark and yeah the intruder left but I wanted some more play time. Mommy just told me that I had been a bad doggie and that I would have to stay in the pen. Well, phooey!! That's the thanks I get for protecting my property. I'll just hop back up on top of my doghouse and enjoy the nice cool evening breeze and dream about my busy day. I might have gotten into trouble a couple of times (well, actually three times. I forgot about that whole roll of shop towels that I tore up all over the yard.) but boy did I have fun today. Wow! This has been a banner day and I am totally exhausted.
Wonder what will happen tomorrow? Wonder if that ugly little intruder will come back again? Or maybe Dad will get another raccoon in that fun little ole rolly cage. Oh boy! Mommy, you'd better get your rest and be prepared to put on your running shoes tomorrow 'cause I'm gonna get a good night's rest. Zzzzzzzzz

More birthday goodies!

June 6th 2009 6:41 pm

Well, well. Today really is turning out to be quite special. I am learning that birthdays are really fun and you get lots of prezzies. High paws!
Besides the birthday cake and treats from Dogster and the doggie bone and message from Mojo and family, I also got some other goodies too.
One of my Mommy's customers gave me a really, really huge box of great big doggie biscuits. Oh boy! It makes my tail wag just thinking about it. That is one huge box of biscuits and will last me for a very long time; especially since Mommy said that I am only allowed to have one or two each day. Now if I could sneak into that box on my own----well, let's just say that it wouldn't last nearly as long. I could probably eat that whole box of biscuits in a day or two. But I am sure that I would end up with one major tummy ache. Anyway, that was so nice of these friends to leave me such a special treat. I couldn't believe my eyes when Mommy brought that huge box home for little ole me.
Then after our trip into town and when my pawrents came back home this afternoon, I got to come in the house for a nice long snooze. It was getting hot outside and I like to come in to sleep underneath the ceiling fan. The cats went outside; so I could sleep quite soundly with no interruptions. I am all rested up now and ready to play!
Oh and this evening when we checked our pawmails and dogster, I was surprised to see that I had received a special giftie from our Australian friends, Merlin, Angel and Mason and their Mommy. It was a pink, bouncy kong toy with a nice message inside. Larissa sent us a message saying that the picture inside the giftie didn't work right; so she sent us the picture through our e-mail. It was a beautiful pink cake with kitties on it and she said that it was just for me with all of those kitties to chase. Hee Hee! Well, now these friends know exactly what I like---food and chasing kitties. What more could I ever ask for? I think that this must be as close to doggie heaven as a girl can get here on earth anyhow. Thank you Merlin, Angel and Mason. (Hugs Larissa).
Oh, Oh! And one more big event that happened this evening was that Mom and Dad gave me some special treats. I know, I know! It is not good for us goggies to eat too much people food, and I am not supposed to beg. But when my humans sit at the table, I just like to rest my head on Mommy's knee and look adorable. (Makes her melt almost everytime) BOL! Isn't I a little stinker?
Soooo, I was doing my adorable look and guess what? It paid off big time! Mommy kept giving me little nibbles of her bologna sandwich and then pretty soon I got one whole piece all to myself. Then it was Dad's turn. He can't resist my puppy dog look and he started giving me pieces of his sandwich too. Pretty soon, I got another whole piece of bologna all for myself. Pawsome! And you know I really don't have to beg at all. I just lie down on the floor between the chairs and get real close to Mom and Dad; then I put my head on one of their knees and let out a big sigh. I've learned many skills in my two years of living with these humans! Hee Hee!
Dad asked me today what I have learned in two years and the "not begging" thing is probably on of my greatest skills, but I have also learned the word NO! (I don't like that word very much but I hear it a lot!) I've also learned the word ball. I love to play ball and if they ask me where is the ball? Well, I can go right to the ball and bring it to them. I have also learned to sit, lie down and to shake paws. My resume is starting to shape up quite nicely if I do say so myself. Speaking of resumes, I have been hired as cook at one of my groups that is called Pups and Purrs. I filled out a resume and guess what? I got hired! Well, I guess that by my information the administrators figured out that if there is one thing that I really know---it is food!
And today being this thing that the humans call a birthday, I have learned that I sure do like having birthdays. I hope that it isn't too long until another year comes around and I can have another birthday! Until then, I will be dreaming of birthday cakes, chasing kitties, eating those huge big biscuits and that yummy bologna. I just bet that THIS goggie is going to have some very sweet dreams tonight.
And to top off this very special day----- just before having to turn in for the night, one of the kitties came into the computer room where I was keeping Mommy company and I got to poke my nose in her face and make her growl and hiss!! Hee Hee! That makes this the end to a very perfect day. BOL! I just cannot resist a chance to tease those cats. Mommy says that I should not do that but I say---Fun, Fun, Fun! *Big smile*
Well, I have to go now. I always have to help Mommy gather the eggs and put the chickens to bed. Then it is my turn to get my doggie food (which always has a fresh egg in it) and then I go to my kennel for the night.
So my dear furriends, I just wanted to say thank you to everybody for all of my birthday treats and for sharing this special day with me. It has definitely been a day to remember.
Love and sloppy doggie kisses to you all.

Today's my 2nd birthday

Oh boy, oh boy! I turn 2 years old today and guess what I got to do?
Mommy let me ride with her in the car and we went to town today.
I even had the window down and got to stick my head all the way out to enjoy the nice cool breeze. Oh my dogness, the smells that I smelled. Pawsome!
When we got into town, we pulled into some alley where Mommy works and there were two people there that came over to the car and talked to me and scritched my ears. I sat on the front seat and Mommy said that I behaved very good. I didn't even bark or growl at anyone.
Then we went to the grocery store----ahhh, the smells there were particularly pawsome. Mmmm, it made my tummy growl just inhaling the aromas of people's shopping bags. Mommy said that she kept looking out the window to check on me and she was so proud to see that I was sitting on the seat and behaving like a lady. Gee, maybe turning 2 years old makes one more mature and lady-like.
When Mommy came back out, she said that we were going back home now; so I enjoyed sticking my head out the window all of the way home too. When we got there, Mommy gave me a great big, huge, doggie biscuit. I was very excited and I have concluded that it pays to sit on the seat like a lady and to be a good doggie. Maybe if I behave really, really well, I can get two treats next time. BOL!
Well, I am going to relax in the family room for a few minutes and then Mommy says that she and Dad are going away for awhile, so I will spend the afternoon enjoying myself under the shade tree in the yard. I love being in the yard. I can watch the neighbors and keep an eye on the chickens out behind our barn. I even like watching the birdies in the trees and just this morning, I saw a huge flock of geese that flew overhead; I could even hear their wings flapping. I tried to chase them, but I couldn't reach that high!
Well this day is turning out to be pretty fun. And last evening, I got to play fetch for a long time. Mommy is teaching me to return the ball and drop it at her feet and then I get a sweet potato fry. Do you get the idea that I will do anything for food? Hee Hee!
I will be write more later; right now I am going to enjoy some ear scritches and back scratches before Mom and Dad have to leave for the day.
Before I go, I just wanna say, "thank you Dogster for the birthday cake and the doggie treats." Having a birthday is a pretty special thing. I hope that I can have another birthday soon. ;) A girl could really get used to all of this pampering.
And thank you Miss Mojo for the doggie bone and the birthday wishes from you and your family. (You really don't have to worry about Tuffy too much. I just like to tease him and try to get him to run so that I can chase him). Mommy says that isn't very nice, but Tuffy seems to like to tease me right back. Man! he has a mean left hook. I guess that I need to learn to leave the kitties alone and maybe I wouldn't end up with a bloody nose. I am trying to be a good girl but it is just so darned hard to resist the chase and Tuffy and Pickles both like to prance in front of me and swish their tails in my face. I will try to be nicer with the kitties from now on since I am growing up and wanting to learn to be more ladylike. I have already learned to keep my nose away and at a safe distance. Those kitties have really sharp claws! Yeow.
Gotta run for now. Much to do and so little time. Mommy says that I won't get another birthday for a whole year; so I must make the most of my special day today.
